Eligibility Criteria of Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main)

Aspirants seeking to appear for JEE Main 2021 Entrance Exam must meet certain eligibility conditions & terms that National Testing Agency prescribes. JEE Main is a national level entrance exam that NTA conducts to provide admission into NITs, IITs, GFTIs, and other participating engineering institutes. The entrance exam will be conducted in four sessions (February, March, April, May) via online mode (computer-based test). As per the schedule, JEE Main 2021 February session examination will be conducted in the last week of February 2021. The candidates should ensure the eligibility conditions before filling up the JEE Main 2021 application form.

Basic Eligibility:

  • Candidates must be citizens of India.
  • NRIs, OCIs, PIOs, and Foreign National Candidates are also eligible to apply.

Age limit criteria:

  • There are no certain age restrictions to appear for the JEE Main 2021 Entrance Exam.
  • However, candidates need to check the age limit criteria of desired colleges in which they wish to secure admission.

Aadhar Card Requirement:

  • To be noted, Aadhar Card is not required compulsory to apply for this examination.
  • Candidates can also use the Ration Card Number, Passport Number, Bank Account Number, or any other government identity number.

Educational Qualification Criteria:

  • For B Tech, Candidates shall have qualified in the 10+2 examination with minimum aggregate marks in the science stream. Candidates shall have studied Physics, Mathematics as main subjects, and one of the subjects such as Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biology or any other technical vocational subject.
  • Candidates who wish to secure admission for B. Planning must have secured a minimum aggregate score of 10+2 (Mathematics as the main subject)
  • If candidates are willing to secure admission into the B Arch course, they must have passed in 10+2 with a required aggregate score (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry as the main subject)

Passing Year Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates who have qualified 12th/ intermediate level or any other equivalent exam in the year 2019 & 2020, such candidates are eligible to apply for JEE Main 2021
  • If the applicant has appeared for the 12th examination in 2018 but not cleared in 2018 instead qualified in 2019, such candidates will not be eligible to take up the entrance exam.
  • Candidates who have qualified 12th board exams in 2018 or before will not be eligible to take up the JEE Main 2021 entrance exam.
  • In case candidates qualified for the 12th examination in the year 2020 but also appear for the 12th exam in 2021 for one or two subjects to improve the marks. Then, the top-20 percentile will be considered by the admission authority.
  • Candidates qualify 12th in 2020 and write all the subjects in 2021, and then the authority will consider the best out of two.
  • Candidates who appear in class 12th final examination in 2021 are also eligible to take up the JEE Main 2021 Entrance Exam.
  • Candidates who will pursue class 12th in the academic session of 2021-22 are not eligible to apply.

Maximum Number of Attempts

  • Candidates can take up the entrance exam, a maximum of 3 years sequentially.
  • Appearing in all the same year's sessions, it will be considered a single attempt.
  • Earlier, the exam was conducted twice a year, but this year the examination will be conducted in 4 sessions.
  • For this year, candidates will be provided an opportunity to appear for all four sessions (February, March, April, and May 2021), which will be considered a single attempt.

JEE Main 2021 Eligibility Criteria for Admission in IITs, NITs, and CFTIs

  • Admission into IITs, NITs, and CFTIs will be made through CSAB (Central Seat Allocation Board) based on All India Rank.
  • Candidates who have secured a minimum 75% aggregate score in the 12th qualifying examination from any recognized board or should be in the top 20 percentile in the 12th, such candidates are eligible to apply for IITs NITs and CFTIs through a valid JEE Main entrance exam score.
  • Whereas candidates belonging to the reserved category will be having 10% of relaxation in aggregate marks. Thus, reserved category candidates must have a qualified minimum 65% aggregate score in the 10+2 examination.

JEE Main 2021 Eligibility Criteria for Admission in State Engineering Colleges

  • While filling up the JEE Main 2021 Application Form, candidates must mention the state code, from which state they have qualified 12th examination or any other equivalent.
  • Thus, candidate's JEE Main eligibility criteria depend on the state from which they have cleared the 12th examination.
  • State Code of eligibility is actually a Code of a specific State from where the candidates have qualified for their 12th/ equivalent exam. Thus, candidates will be eligible to secure admission through JEE Main valid score for B Tech, B Arch, B Planning courses offered by the Colleges of the respective State or Union Territories.

What are the new eligibility terms in JEE Main 2021?

For JEE Main 2021, some of the new features in eligibility terms have been implemented. The New eligibility terms and conditions are listed below.

  • Applicants applying for JEE Main 2021 from India must have an Aadhar Card or any other valid identity proof to take up the entrance exam. At the same time, foreign applicants should have valid Passport.
  • Provision for the Meghalaya, Assam, Jammu & Kashmir Applicants.
  • Candidates appearing for the JEE Main entrance exam from the above-mentioned states need to provide the necessary details such as the Ration Card Number or any other government Identity number while registering for JEE Main.
  • Such candidates can also choose the cities in their respective states for the examination center.
  • There will be no weightage applicable for class 12th marks. According to the CBSE’s directive, 12th marks will not be considered while preparing the All India JEE Main Rank List.

List of Qualifying Exams (QE) for JEE Main 2021

The basic eligibility criteria for applying for JEE Main are candidates who shall have passed in 12th examination from any recognized board. Apart from the 12th qualifying examination, other equivalent examinations are considered qualifying exam eligibility for JEE Main.

  • The final examination of 12th, which recognized State Board holds, Central Board such as Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) or Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi, etc.
  • Candidates who have qualified in the final examination of the two-year course, namely the Joint Services Wing of National Défense Academy (NDA), such candidates are eligible to take up the JEE Main entrance exam.
  • Senior Secondary School Examination (SSSE), which the National Institute of Open Schooling will conduct
  • Any public board examinations or university examinations in India or foreign countries, which is equivalent to 10+2 exam and it is recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU)
  • Candidates who have qualified in Higher Secondary Certificate Vocational Examination are also eligible for JEE Main.
  • Candidates who have completed three years diploma-polytechnic course from any recognized institute are also eligible to appear for JEE Main.
  • Aspirants who have qualified in the General Certificate of Education Examination (GCEE) (London/Sri Lanka/Cambridge) at an advanced level are also eligible to apply.

JEE Main 2021 Application Form is made available on the official website (@jeemain.nta.nic.in). Applicants who meet the JEE Main 2021 eligibility terms & conditions are qualified to apply for JEE Main 2021 entrance exam online according to the prescribed schedule. JEE Main will be conducted by NTA every year. Through JEE Main valid score, candidates can secure admission in B Tech/B Arch/B Planning course offered by IITs, NITs, GFTIs, and other participating colleges across the country. This year, JEE Main 2021 entrance exam will be conducted in four sessions (February, March, April, May). Also, candidates will be provided an opportunity to register for all four sessions (February, March, April, May) by logging into the official website through online mode.

NTA has commenced the JEE Main 2021 application process from the third week of December 2020. Applicants must submit the application form by the third week of January 2021. The applicants should register for the exam within a given time frame. Otherwise, late submission candidature will be rejected. After the conclusion of the application process, NTA will activate the JEE Main-2021 Application Correction Window from the 4th week of January 2021. Applicants will make the corrections in the application form online mode.

JEE Main 2021 Application Process involves certain steps, namely Registration, Application Form Filling, Uploading Documents, Fees Payment, and Downloading the Confirmation Page. Through this article, candidates can find the detailed stepwise application form filling procedure for JEE Main 2021.

Step 1: JEE Main 2021 Registration Process

  • Foremost, visit the official web portal NTA-JEE Main (@ jeemain.nta.nic.in)
  • Then, click on the link “Apply online for JEE Main-2021.”
  • The instructions will display on the screen, read the instructions and guidelines carefully and make sure the eligibility terms before proceeding to apply.
  • After reading the instructions, tick in the box and choose “Click here to proceed”
  • Thereafter, a registration window will appear. Continue to fill up the registration form by entering the details such as Name, Parent’s Name, DOB details, Mobile Number, Valid Email ID, and other relevant details.
  • After filling up the necessary details, candidates are required to choose the password and security questions and need to answer the same question.
  • Upon successful registration, candidates will receive a system-generated Application Number.
  • Candidates must note down the application number for future reference.

Step 2: Filling Up JEE Main 2021 Application Form

  • In this step, candidates need to use their Application Number and Created Password as login credentials to sign up for the application form portal.
  • Upon successful login, the page will direct to the application form portal. You need to fill in all the necessary details such as personal, contact, education qualification, exam city preferences, state code for eligibility, and other relevant information.
  • To be noted, candidates must fill in the details appropriately and review them once before clicking on the “Final Submit” option.

Step 3: Uploading the Documents

  • After filling up the online form, applicants need to scan the recent passport size photo and the signature and upload it according to the prescribed dimensions.
  • The passport-sized photo should be colored, or it can be black & white, but it must be clear in contrast.
  • The photo & signature scanned image should be in JPEG or JPG format.
  • To be noted, the application form with an unclear photograph or signature will be rejected. Thus, while uploading, candidates must upload the appropriate scanned image according to the prescribed format.
  • Also, candidates must upload the scanned image of the 12th Examination/ Equivalent Marks Sheet along with the 12th Admit Card as per the specified guidelines (size 50kb to 500kb)

Step 4: Payment of JEE Main 2021 Application Fees

  • After uploading the documents, candidates required to pay the JEE Main 2021 application fees through online mode only by using any one of the online payment methods (Net Banking/Credit Card/Debit Card/UPI)
  • Along with the application fee charges, candidates must pay the processing fees too via online mode.
  • JEE Main 2021 Application fees cost INR 650 for General Category/EWS/OBC (Applicable for Male Candidates Only). Whereas candidates belonging to reserved categories such as SC/ST and all category girls, application fees charge approximate INR 325.
  • In case candidates appearing for more than one subject in JEE Main, general category candidates need to pay INR 1300. At the same time, reserved category candidates should pay INR 650.
  • Once the payment is made, fees will not be refunded at any cost.

Step 5: Download the Confirmation Page

  • Upon successful transaction, a confirmation page will be generated.
  • Thereafter, candidates must download the confirmation page and take the printout of the same.
  • In case a confirmation page is not generated. The transaction will then be canceled, and the concerned bank will refund the amount for their respective bank account.
  • However, candidates must make another transaction/payment until the confirmation page gets generated.

Q. Is Aadhar Card Compulsory required for JEE Main 2021?

Aadhar Card is not mandatory, and any government ID proof is valid for appearing in JEE Main 2021 Entrance Exam.

Q. How many attempts will be allowed for JEE Main 2021?

Candidates can take up JEE Main Entrance Exam, up to three consecutive years.
