Boston University(BU) is a private research university located in Boston, Massachusetts. The university is nonsectarian, but is historically affiliated with the United Methodist Church. The university has more than 3,800 faculty members and 33,000 students, and is one of Boston's largest employers.It offers bachelor's degrees, master's degrees, and doctorates, and medical, dental, business, and law degrees through eighteen schools and colleges on two urban campuses. 

The main campus is situated along the Charles River in Boston's Fenway-Kenmore and Allston neighborhoods, while the Boston University Medical Campus is in Boston's South End neighborhood. BU also operates 75 study abroad programs in more than 33 cities in over twenty countries and has internship opportunities in ten different countries (including the United States).

MBA Program

Boston University’s full-time MBA offers an opportunity for you to immerse yourself in Questrom and MBA student life, and to hone and expand your current skill set.  The core courses give students a solid grounding in the basic MBA skill set: accounting, finance, information systems, marketing, operations, organizational behavior, and strategy . The MBA summer internship helps students develop connections and expertise that are crucial for their career search.

MS Program

Over 200 world class Master degree programs.Professionals who wish to master project and program management on their own schedule, the online Master of Science in Project Management program serves as a comprehensive introduction to the world of project management. While learning the tools and techniques to monitor and track project costs and schedules, students develop the ability to manage project resources and communications, and complete a successful project. The program covers both introductory and advanced knowledge, and will provide the skills to manage a complex project within a specific timeframe and budget.


Engineering Program

Eight Master of Engineering degree programs are geared to early career professionals and recent college graduates seeking advancement as technology leaders in industry. Emphasizing advanced technical training as well as the leadership and management skills you need to lead in project management, product development and design, the program includes an individual or team-based practicum design project and the flexibility to choose courses offered through BU’s renowned Questrom School of Business. The 32 credit degree program can be completed in as little as one year of full time study. Part-time and distance learning options are also available.

Admission Process at Boston University

Applying to Boston University, Applicants whose primary language is not English must meet an English proficiency requirement in one of the ways listed below. 

  • Internet-Based TOEFL (IBT): score of 71 with minimum scores of 17 in the Speaking and Writing sections.
  • Paper-Based TOEFL (PBT): score of 530.
  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS): an overall band score of 6.0 with no sub score below 5.5.
  • SAT Critical Reading: a minimum score of 420 on the Critical Reading Section of the SAT.
  • Pearson Test of English-Academic (PTE): score or 48.
  • Official TOEFL scores should be reported directly to University by the testing agency. (Scanned copies, photocopies, and Web results are not accepted.) 

Conditional Admission: Otherwise qualified applicants who do not meet one of the above test score requirements may apply for conditional admission if they have the following:

  • TOEFL IBT score of 55 or higher
  •  IELTS of 5.5

If you apply for conditional admission, you will be asked on the application form if you wish to apply for Intensive English and Orientation Program (IEOP). You must pass one of the required English proficiency examinations before you can begin regular classes.


BU Boston Facilities and Infrastructure

  • The large dormitories include the 1,800-student Warren Towers, the largest on campus, as well as West Campus and The Towers. The smaller dormitory and apartment style housing are mainly located in two parts of campus: Bay State Road and the South Campus residential area. Bay State Road is a tree-lined street that runs parallel to Commonwealth Avenue and is home to the majority of BU's town houses, often called "brownstones".
  • The Mugar Memorial Library is the central academic library for the Charles River Campus. It also houses the Howard Gotlieb Archival Research Center, formerly called the Twentieth Century Archive, where documents belonging to thousands of eminent figures in literature, journalism, diplomacy, the arts, and other fields are housed.
  • The George Sherman Union (GSU), located next to Mugar Memorial Library, provides students with a food court featuring many fast-food chains, including Panda Express (which opened Fall 2006), Starbucks, and Pinkberry. The GSU also provides lounge areas for students to relax or study. The basement of the George Sherman Union is home to the BU Central lounge, which hosts concerts and other activities and events.
