Tolani Maritime Institute conducts a university level entrance exam called as Tolani Maritime Institute of Science Aptitude Test(TMISAT) to provide admission to the candidates and it is one of the largest maritime educational centres offering MARINE ENGINEERING and NAUTICAL SCIENCE degree programs in affiliation with Indian Maritime University, a central University. Tolani Maritime Institute is committed to be an instrument of positive change in the maritime industry for the ultimate benefit of society. For all those who undertake education and training at the institute, TMI shall facilitate acquisition of the right learning, right skills and the right attitude thereby promoting in them a passion for the profession. TMISAT Eligibility criteria

Candidates, seeks admission into  B.Tech courses in Marine Engineering and Nautical Technology of TMI, have to meet the following criteria in order to be eligible for admission to B. Tech courses:

  • Candidates must have passed their Senior Secondary Examination (10+2) or its equivalent with at least 60% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and at least 50% marks in English either in Class X or Class XII
  • Candidates having the Class 12 from the International Board of Education will also be eligible to apply for the Admission Test and they must submit the ‘Equivalence Certificate’ issued by the Association of Indian Universities
  • Male candidate’s age must be less than 21 years as on 1st September of the year of admission. For female candidates, age relaxation of 2 years is specified.
  • The Institute has laid down detailed minimum physical fitness and medical standards. The candidate has to meet these standards to qualify for admission. You are advised to have yourself medically examined by competent doctors before applying. This will ensure that you meet the minimum requirements, which in turn will avoid disappointment at a later stage.
  • Candidates for the B.Tech. Nautical Technology programme must have 6/6 vision in both eyes.

TMISAT Application Form & fees

The candidate can fill the application form through online or can purchase from the national centres of TMI, which will be available from the month of April 2017.
There are few detailed points which are given below, to be followed by the student while filling the application form.

Online & Offline modes:
Candidates can apply through the official website and will be required to pay INR 1000/- as application fee for TMISAT 2017 Application Form via Credit/Debit Cards or through DD/Pay order drawn in favour of “Tolani Maritime Institute”, payable at Pune.
Candidates will be required to take the print out of duly filled application form and send it along with the transaction receipt in case of online payment OR along with Demand Draft/Pay Order to TMI.
Candidates must mention their TMISAT 2017 Application Form number and contact details on the backside of the draft.
Documents to be sent along with TMISAT 2017 Application Form:

  • Printed copy of the online Tolani Maritime Institute Science Aptitude Test (TMISAT) 2017 Application Form and summary generated or duly filled offline form
  • Two identical recent passport size photographs with applicant’s name & application form no. mentioned at the back
  • Copies of passing certificates or mark sheets of 10th and 12th examinations (or its equivalent) attested by Gazetted Government officers.
  • In case of the candidates appearing in 12th or equivalent exam in 2017 and do not have the marks sheet of 12th class may submit a bonafide certificate from the head of the school or college last attended.
  • Downloaded copies of class 12th marks sheet attested by school principal
  • Copies of certificates for sports and any other extracurricular activities
  • Attested Copy of Birth Certificate
  • Online transaction receipt, in case of online payment OR Demand Draft of Rs.1000/- drawn in favour of “Tolani Maritime Institute”, payable at Pune  OR the counterfoil (TMI Office Copy) received from Axis Bank

TMISAT Syllabus & Exam Pattern

The exam patterns for TMISAT 2017 are mentioned below:

  • Exam will be conducted online and will consist of multiple choice questions (MCQs).
  • Question papers will consist of subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English, Logical reasoning and analytical problem solving.
  • The exam will have a total of 100 questions to attempt. There is no negative marking in other sections except Physics and Mathematics.
  • The total duration of the exam will be 3 hours.
  • Exam Pattern is designed in a way that tests candidates on various skills like problem solving skills, reasoning skills, language skills, general knowledge, subject knowledge, and aptitude and personality traits.

Syllabus will be based on the 11th and 12th CBSE standard like:-

  • Physics,
  • Chemistry
  • Mathematics
  • English grammar
  • Vocabulary
  • Logical & Analytical reasoning.


The Syllabus for TMISAT 2017 is mentioned below for the Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics:

Syllabus for Physics:-

Physics and Measurement, Kinematics, Laws of Motion, Work, Energy and Power, Motion of System of Particles and Rigid Body, Gravitation, Properties of Bulk Matter, Thermodynamics, Behaviour of Perfect Gas and Kinetic Theory, Oscillations and Waves, Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Magnetic Effects of Current and Magnetism, Electromagnetic Induction and Alternating Currents, Electromagnetic Waves, Optics, Dual Nature of Matter and Radiation, Atoms and Nuclei, Electronic Devices, Communication System.

Syllabus for Chemistry :-

Chemical Arithmetic & Atomic Structure, Chemical Equilibrium, Chemical Kinetics, Solutions, Chemical Thermodynamics, Redox Reactions and Electrochemistry, Solid State & States of Matter, Surface Chemistry, Classification of Elements and Periodicity in Properties, Chemical Bonding and Molecular Structure, Chemistry of Representative Elements, Transition Elements Including Lanthanides, Nomenclature and Basic Concepts in the Organic Chemistry, Hydrocarbons, Organic Chemistry Based On Functional Group-I, Organic Chemistry Based On Function Group-II, Organic Chemistry Based On Functional Group-III, Co-Ordination Chemistry and Organometallics, Molecules of Life, Polymers.


Syllabus for Mathematics:-

Sets, Relations and Functions, Complex Numbers, Linear In equation, Linear Programming, Sequence and Series, Permutation and Combinations, Trigonometric and Inverse Trigonometry Functions, Matrices and Determinants, Limit Continuity and Differentiation, Integration and Differential Equations, Straight Lines and Conic Sections, Statistics and Probability, Vectors and Three Dimensional Geometry.

TMISAT Admit Card

The admit card will be available online in the official website; the candidates have to download the hall ticket. Admit Card must be carried by the Candidates while appearing the exam, No candidate will be allowed not having the Admit Card. In case of loss of the card must be reported to the exam controller office, so that they can provide a duplicate card to enter the examination hall.

TMISAT Results & Score Card

The results will be published online in the month of June 2017 between 2nd to 3rd week and the cut-Off for the exam will also be declared, the schedule of the counselling and details of it will be available on the official website. The applicants can download their result by using their roll number and application ID. The candidates have to make sure that they have the medical certificate ready before the counselling starts.

TMISAT Counselling & Admission

The institute will conduct the Counselling for TMISAT 2017 in the first week of July, 2017, before appearing in the counselling; candidates must have finalized their choices which will be required during the counselling of TMISAT.

TMISAT 2017 Counselling Procedure is given below:

  • Once the results is been announced, the candidate will be called for the Interview.
  • After qualifying the Interview, candidates will have to appear and clear the Medical Test for the admission.
  • Seats in under graduate engineering courses will be allotted to the qualified candidates on the basis of marks / ranks obtained by them in Tolani Maritime Institute Science Aptitude Test (TMISAT) 2017, in case if an applicant doesn’t take admission in allotted course, his seat will be allotted to any other candidate on the basis of his/her rank in the merit list.
  • If a candidate doesn’t wish to go for the admission in the course allotted to him/her at Tolani Maritime Institute, then he/she may surrender the seat instantly.
  • Candidates must be very careful while entering their choices of course as after submission no changes will be allowed to the courses entered by the candidate.
  • For TMISAT 2017 counselling the institute will also accept the score of BITSAT 2017.

Documents required at TMISAT 2017 Counselling:

  • Candidates have to be present at TMISAT Counselling 2017 venue with the following documents in original along with one set of photocopies
  • Passing certificate of the qualifying examination
  • Score card of the qualifying examination
  • School Transfer Certificate
  • Passing Certificate of High School to verify the age of the applicant
  • Character Certificate issued by the school from which the applicant has passed recently
  • Certificate of Migration
  • SC/ST/OBC Certificate
  • Proof of Permanent Residence

Tolani Maritime Institute (TMI) is an off campus centre of Birla Institute of Technology (BITS), Pilani. TMI offers undergraduate engineering courses in Marine Engineering and Nautical Technology and the degrees for these courses are awarded by the BITS, Pilani.
