JEE Main 2024 Syllabus & Exam Pattern

Syllabus & Exam Pattern of Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main)

Candidates willing to attempt JEE Main Entrance Exam must be aware of JEE Main 2024 Exam Pattern. It helps the candidates know the complete details of JEE Main question paper, such as the mode of exam, the number of sections, the type of questions, duration, the marking scheme, etc. The JEE Main Exam Pattern was revised in the previous session due to reducing the CBSE and state board syllabus. The JEE Main Exam Pattern of 2024 is predicted to remain unchanged. There will be 30 questions in each of the physics, chemistry, and mathematics subjects. There will be two portions in each of these subjects. Section A will include 20 multiple-choice questions, and Section B will have 10 numerical value response questions. Candidates must attempt any five of the ten questions in section B.

It should be noted that in 2020, the overall number of questions in the B.E/B. Tech paper was lowered from 90 to 75; however, in JEE Main 2021, this adjustment has been reversed, and the number of questions that must be attempted in each section stays the same, i.e., 25. Another significant difference in JEE Main Exam Pattern is that it will be administered in 13 regional languages. Thus, candidates are advised to check the JEE Main Exam Pattern before beginning the JEE Main Exam Preparation. The official notification of JEE Main 2024 is expected to be published online by December 1st. The JEE Main valid score is used to get admission to the UG Degree Courses such as BE/B Tech, B Plan  & B Arch at IITs, NITs, and CFTIs.

  • JEE Main 2024 Exam Mode: The JEE Main exam is administered in an online CBT format. Offline mode will be used for the JEE Main Paper-II (B.Arch.) drawing test. JEE's Main questions conclude in Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics.
  • Types of Questions: In the exam, you will be asked objective types - Multiple Choice and quantitative type questions.
  • Number of Questions: The question paper contains 90 questions, of which candidates must answer 75. In part B, you will be provided options.
  • Exam Frequency: JEE Main 2024 will be held two times a year.
  • Exam Time: The exam will last three hours. For candidates with a 40% disability, the time limit is 4 hours.
  • Number of Papers:   Three in total (BE/B Tech, B Arch, and B Planning.
  • Medium of Paper: JEE Main 2024 question papers are available in Hindi, English, Tamil, Odia, Punjabi, Assamese, Telugu, Marathi, Malayalam, Kannada, Gujarati, and Bengali. During the application procedure, students must select a language medium. There are no adjustments that can be made later.
  • JEE Main marking scheme: Each correct question will receive four points. For each wrong response, one mark will be deducted. There will be no negative marking in section B of JEE Main 2024.

Note: In JEE Main question paper-part B, applicants must attempt any 5 of the 10 questions.

FAQs :

Q1. Is the JEE mains worth 300 or 400 points?

Ans. The B.E./B.Tech. Paper is worth 300 points, whereas the B.Arch. &B. Planning paper is worth 400 points. As a result, it depends on which paper you will take in JEE Main 2021. In the B.E./B. Tech paper, 75 questions are asked, and 77 in the B.Arch. Exam, &100 in the B. Planning paper.

Q2. Will there be no physics or chemistry problems in the B.Arch? &B. Planning papers?

Ans. In the B. Arch &B. Planning papers, there will be no questions on physics or chemistry.

Q3. Do I have to cover all physics concepts to pass the cutoff? Could you provide me with some examples of high-weighted topics?

Ans. No, JEE Main has no sectional cutoff, but you can cover the major topics to meet the exam's overall cutoff. For example, the topic of Modern Physics has the most questions, five, with a total score of twenty. Thus it should be extensively reviewed. Heat &Thermodynamics, Optics, Current Electricity, &Electrostatics are other high-weight topics.

Q4. How should I prepare for all areas of Paper 2 to attain an AIR of 50?

Ans. Maths is worth 100 points in JEE Main Paper 2 & the problems are more extensive than the other sections. Thus it would help if you concentrated on the fundamentals. In addition, you must conduct your research using credible sources. Finally, the drawing component is worth 100 points for two questions. Since this course leads to the entrance to the architecture program, you should be familiar with it.

Q5. How does the marking scheme work in JEE Main 2024?

Ans. You will receive +4 marks for each correct response and -1 for each incorrect attempt, &no marks will be removed for any unattempted questions.

Q6. Is NCERT sufficient for the JEE mains?

Ans. NCERT books are sufficient & should always be your first focus for studies because the JEE main entrance examination is based on the CBSE 11th & 12th-grade syllabus.

Q7. Is it necessary to write both JEE mains & advance to apply to colleges?

Ans. If you are willing to apply for IITs, It is mandatory to undertake JEE Advance after qualifying for JEE Mains. It is applicable only for securing admission at IITs.

Q8. What should I do to prepare for JEE Main as a beginner? Is it acceptable to study my book independently or get coaching?

Ans. To prepare for JEE Main, you must first comprehend the Exam Pattern &thoroughly review the syllabus using NCERT &other reference materials. Then you must practice the objective questions and questions from past years & JEE Main mock test papers. Depending on your conceptual understanding, you can choose between self-study &coaching institutes. You must initially concentrate on developing your concepts.

Q9. Is the aptitude section for both the B. Arch &B. Planning papers the same?

Ans. The aptitude section is widespread in JEE Main Papers 2 (B. Arch) &3 (B. Planning). The following are some of the topics:

  • Persons, locations, buildings, &materials are all aware of each other.
  • Objects &textures from the built environment &architecture
  • Converting two-dimensional drawings into three-dimensional things
  • Seeing the various aspects of three-dimensional objects
  • Reasoning Analytically Mental Capabilities (Visual, Numerical &Verbal)

Q 10. What does it imply when you say numeric value questions? Does it mean you have to respond up to 4-5 decimal places or in integers 0-9?

Ans. The response to a numerical value question must be in the form of an integer. However, if the selections include a decimal value that is the same, you will choose the decimal-valued option.

Q11. Is there a way to learn the fundamentals of physics, chemistry, & mathematics?

Ans. Yes, some themes in each part require greater attention & have a higher number of questions than others. Each segment has a weighted average of 30 questions.

Q12. How should I prepare for the JEE Main BE/B Tech first paper?

To prepare for paper 1, you must first properly review the JEE Main 2024 Paper 1 syllabus. Then you must solve all of the numerical problems based on the topics covered in the exam. The preparation from prior years' papers must then be done. Attempt JEE Main 2024 Mock Test available on the NTA's official website.

Q13. Which book is best for practising the JEE Main Paper 2 drawing test?

Ans. The following books will be useful for JEE Main Exam 2 drawing preparations:

P.K. Mishra (Arihant) Steps to Architecture: A Complete Self-Guide for B. Arch Entrance Examination (NATA) Nimish Madan – B.Arch. Entrance Exam.

Q14. Will all of the papers have the same syllabus?

Ans. The JEE Main exam will be divided into three sections: Physics, Chemistry, &Mathematics. The syllabus for each of the three sections will be distinct. However, they will all be based on the 11th & 12th-grade syllabus. Therefore, the subjects for each segment are different. The syllabus for various B.E/B. Tech, B. Planning, & B.Arch papers will also differ.

Q15. How important are the exam's S, P, D, & F block elements?

Ans. The Chemistry section of JEE Main is worth 100 points. The topic "Periodic Table & Representative Elements" include the S, P, D, &F block elements. The weightage of this topic in the JEE Main exam is 6%.
