Syllabus & Exam Pattern of Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main)

NTA has been revised JEE Main 2021 Exam Pattern by considering reducing the 12th Syllabus made by State Boards and CBSE Board. Another major change in exam pattern is, JEE Main 2021 will be held in 13 regional languages.

JEE Main exam pattern 2021 is made available at the official website (@ jeemain.nta.nic.in). Candidates can log on to the official website and find out the revised exam pattern and the JEE Main 2021 information brochure to know more about the exam guidelines & instructions. This year, examination authority NTA has revised the JEE Main 2021 Exam Pattern. The total number of questions has been changed. However, the total marks remain the same. The JEE Main 2021 National Level Entrance Exam is being conducted to provide admission to the B Tech, B Arch, B Planning courses offered by IITs, NITs, GFTIs, and other participating institutes.

JEE Main 2021 entrance exam for B.E / BTech course (Paper 1) will be conducted online (computer-based test). It comprises 90 MCQs, which carries 300 total marks. Whereas JEE Main for BArch (Paper 2A) will be conducted via online mode for Mathematics & aptitude test and offline mode for drawing test, it comprises 82 questions that carry a total of 400 marks. Simultaneously, the JEE Main exam for B. Plan (Paper-3) will be held separately for 400 Marks, and candidates must solve 105 MCQ types of questions.

The range of changes was implemented in JEE Main Exam 2021 Pattern. According to the revised examination pattern, Paper-1 (B Tech) will be a completely online-based test that covers MCQ & Numerical Value Type of questions from Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics Syllabus. B Arch & B. Planning papers conclude mathematic & aptitude type of questions along with the drawing section which will be held in offline mode (Paper Based Test).

JEE Main Exam Pattern for BE/B Tech (Paper-1)

Examination Mode: JEE Main Entrance Exam for B Tech Course (Paper-1) will be conducted via online mode (Computer-based test)

Subjects: JEE Main Exam Paper-1 comprises the three subjects: Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics.

Type of Questions: Objective Type/Multiple Type of Questions and Numeric Type of Questions.

Number of Questions: Paper-1 (BE/B Tech) comprises 90 questions, and there will be two sections, namely A & B. (To be noted, candidates required to attempt 75 questions, choices will be applicable only in Section-B /Part-B)

Nature of Questions: Section-A comprises 20 Multiple choice questions, and Section-B comprises 10 Numeric Type of Questions (Answer based questions). In Section-B, candidates are required to attempt 5 questions out of 10.

Exam Duration: The JEE Main Entrance Exam's time duration is 3 hours, whereas candidates with 40% disability will have 4 hours to solve the framed questions.

Marking Scheme-For every correct answer 4 marks will be provided.

Negative Marking-For every wrong answer, 1 mark will be deducted in response to the incorrect answer (To be noted, Negative Marking Will not applicable for Section-B)

Exam Medium: As per the revised exam pattern, the medium of question paper will be in 13 regional languages (English, Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Gujarati, Bengali, Urdu, Assamese, Marathi, Odia, and Punjabi). While filling up the application form, candidates need to choose the language medium according to their preference.

JEE Main Exam Pattern 2021 for B Arch (Paper-2)

Examination Mode: JEE Main Examination for B Arch Paper will be conducted partially in online mode (computer-based test) for objective type questions and conducted in offline mode (paper-based test) for the drawing section.

Subjects: The JEE Main B Arch Exam Paper comprises three subjects: Aptitude Test, Mathematics, and Drawing Test.

Type of Questions: The paper comprises objective/multiple types of questions in Section-A, whereas Section-B contains the numerical type of questions.

Number of Questions-There will be two sections Part-A & Part-B.

  • In Mathematics, Section-A comprises 20 MCQ type of questions, and Section-B comprises 10 Numeric types of questions (In section B, candidates required to answer 5 questions out of 10)
  • In Aptitude Test, Section-A concludes 50 MCQ types of questions.
  • In Drawing Test, Section-A comprises 2 questions.
  • Candidates are required to solve 82 questions, which carries overall 400 Marks.

Exam Duration: The JEE Main Exam Duration for B Arch Paper is 3 hours. In case candidates having a 40% disability, they will be provided 4 hours of time duration to solve the questions. If candidates are required to appear for both B Arch & B Plan (combination paper), then the exam duration will be 3 hours 30 minutes.

Marking Scheme: For each correct answer, candidates will be provided 4 marks.

Negative Marking: For incorrect answers, negative marking will be applicable. Thus, 1 mark will be deducted. There will be no negative in Section-B for numerical answer type to be noted.

Exam Medium: As per the new exam pattern, JEE Main 2021 exam paper will be in 13 regional languages such as English, Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Gujarati, Bengali, Urdu, Assamese, Marathi, Odia, and Punjabi

JEE Main Exam Pattern 2021 for B Planning (Paper 3)

Examination Mode: The mode of examination for JEE Main 2021 B Planning Course (Paper-3) is an online mode (computer-based test).

Subjects: The paper comprises Mathematics, Aptitude Test & Planning based objective questions.

Type of Questions: There will be two sections A & B. Section-A comprises MCQ type of questions, and Section-B comprises Numerical value types of questions.

Number of Questions: There will be 105 questions, which carries a total of 400 Marks.

  • In Mathematics, section-A concludes with 20 MCQ types of questions, and Section-B concludes with 10 Numeric types of questions. (To be noted, candidates required to choose any 5 questions out of 10 questions in Section-B)
  • In Aptitude Test- It comprises only 50 MCQ type of questions.
  • Planning based questions- It comprises 25 MCQ type of questions.

Exam Duration: Candidates must solve the questions according to the time allotment, which is 3 hours.

Marking Scheme: For every correct answer, candidates will get 4 Marks.

Negative Marking: 1 mark will be deducted for every wrong attempt. For Section-B, negative marking will not be applicable.

Exam Medium: The question paper will be in 13 regional languages according to NTA's changes. (English, Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Gujarati, Bengali, Urdu, Assamese, Marathi, Odia, and Punjabi)

Q. JEE Main 2021 Exam Pattern Changed?

Yes, NTA has revised the JEE Main 2021 Exam Pattern and introduced some of the pattern changes.

Q. What are new changes have been implemented in Exam Pattern?

There will be 30 questions in each PCM Subject. Section-A comprises 20 MCQ types of questions, and Section-B concludes with 10 numerical types of questions. Another major change is, JEE Main Exam Paper medium will be in 13 regional languages.

Q. What is the Numerical Value Type of Questions?

It will not have any options like MCQ type of questions, and candidates must answer it either in integral value or decimal value.

Q. What will be the marking scheme for the questions which need to be answered by numerical value?

Numerical value-based questions will carry 4 marks for each correct answer, similar to the MCQ marking scheme. However, there will be no negative marking for the Numerical value type answer.

Q. Can we carry the calculator to the exam center?

No, candidates will be not be allowed to carry a calculator or any other electronic device for JEE Main Entrance Exam.

Q. How many Non-MCQ types of questions have been introduced in JEE Main 2021, B Tech Paper?

All the 3 subjects, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, will contain 30 questions. There will be 20 MCQ type of questions, and the remaining 10 are Numerical value-based questions—candidates are required to choose 5 questions out of 10.
