MAT - Management Aptitude Test

MAT or Management Aptitude Test happens to be a national level entrance examination which is organized every year by AIMA or All India Management Association. Candidates who are willing to seek admission in the management education can appear for this entrance test. The examination is conducted four times every year in the month of December, February, September and May. Students of architecture, medicine, engineering, science, and computer can appear for the test for pursuing a career in Management.

The examination is conducted both in Computer and paper mode.Candidates can select Computer based entrance examination or Paper Based Examination in accordance with the convenience. Candidates need to fulfill the eligible criteria for appearing in the exam. It is essential to check the criteria to avoid confusion later on. The entrance test of MAT comprises of 200 questions. There will be negative marking of 1/4 for every wrong answer. MAT test primarily comprises of five sections which are inclusive of data analysis, Mathematical skills, intelligence, comprehension, critical reasoning.

There is no age limit for appearing in the MAT test. Students of any age can appear for this entrance examination. Candidates who are willing to appear for MAT test can apply online. After submission of the form online, the examination committee will scrutinize the form after which they will release the acknowledgment slip.   • The candidates can get the MAT Application form in the first week of Oct.
  • Last date for submitting the Application form will be in the Nov 30 for paper based exam.
  • Admit Card will be available on Dec 1 for paper based exam and Dec 10 for computer based exam. 
  • Examination Date i.e., Paper Based Test on Dec 9 and  Computer Based Test will be held in the Dec 15. 
  • Declaration of MAT result will be done within a month after the examination.

MAT Eligibility criteria

The minimum qualification for appearing in this MAT entrance examination is graduation. Candidates who have completed their graduation in arts, commerce and science are eligible for appearing for this entrance test. Students in the final year of graduation are also eligible for applying for this entrance test. 

Candidates should score at least an aggregate of 50 % for applying in the test. Scheduled Tribe and Schedule Caste candidates, on the other hand, should score at least 45%. The NRI students are also eligible for appearing in the test. Candidates of any age can go for this entrance examination. No prior work experience is required for appearing in the MAT entrance examination.

Following are the few mentioned criteria’s for the candidates to appear for MAT December:

  • The candidate’s minimum qualification should be graduate to appear for the entrance test. 
  • Any stream in graduation like science, commerce and arts are eligible to apply. 
  • The candidate should hold the graduation degree from recognized Board of MHRD.
  • The minimum age of the candidate should be 21 years of age.
  • The final candidates can apply for the examination but have to confirm the submission of the certificates before the commencement of the classes.
  • The candidate must have 50% marks in aggregate in the graduation and 45% for SC/ST Candidates.
  • There are seats reserved for SC/ST, OBC candidates and also for disabled.
  • There is no attempt limit for the candidates to appear for this entrance  exam.

MAT Application Form & fees

Candidates who are willing to appear for MAT entrance test can apply online. You can submit the application form via the official website of MAT. MAT forms appear four times in a single year on the official website of AIMA. You can fill the forms in the month of November, January, March, and August. After submitting the application form, the candidate will receive the human identified acknowledgment slip. The slip indicates that the form has been filed and verified properly.

The application fee for applying in MAT December is Rs. 1550. There is no concession on the fees for the reserved categories. Candidates can submit the examination fee via debit card, credit card, Demand Draft, Net Banking or Cash.

Procedure to Apply for MAT:

  • MAT registration will be done through online and offline procedure. The following is the official website or the link for the MAT online form (
  • The MAT forms will be available on AIM website four times in a year in the month of January, March, August and November (Tentatively).
  • After submitting the application form online, the form will be examined by the examination committee and the applicants will be provided with the acknowledgement slip.
  • This will assure that the candidate’s application form has been filled correctly and verified.
  • The application form fee cost is Rs.1550/-. No fee concession will be there for the reserved category. The exam fee can be paid through credit card/ Debit card, Net banking, Demand Draft and cash.
  • If the candidate will pay through DD, then it will be in favor of ‘All India Management Association’ payable at New Delhi from any National Bank.

MAT Syllabus & Exam Pattern

MAT entrance test is conducted both in offline and online mode. It comprises of 200 questions. Candidates are being rewarded 1 mark for each correct answer whereas 1/4 marks are deducted for every wrong answer. The duration for completing the entrance test is 2 hours and 30 minutes

There are 5 sections in the test and each section carries 40 marks. The question paper will primarily comprise of 5 sections which include intelligence and critical reasoning, language comprehension, data analysis and sufficiency, Indian and Global environment and mathematical Skills.

MAT Admit Card

AIMA releases the admit card for MAT after accepting online applications for MAT. Students who have submitted the application form for MAT can download the hall ticket from the official website of AIMA. Candidate can download the admit card of MAT Sept entrance exam from 1st week of Sept computer.

It is essential to carry the admit card along with other relevant documents on the date of entrance test. Admit card consists of important data such as roll number and name of the Candidate, exam center, etc. The exam organizing body will not be sending the Admit card by post, email, phone or post. You require to login into the website by email ID, Date of Birth and Form number for downloading the admit card.

MAT Results & Score Card

Candidates who have appeared for MAT entrance test can check the results of the examination from the official website of AIMA. The result will be announced online only. Candidates should take a printout of the result along with score card and keep the same safe until the admission process is completed. Students can download the score card online. Organizing bodies send an individual copy of score card and photograph via normal post to the address mentioned in the registration form.

The results of MAT will be conducted after one month of the examination. The scorecard can be downloaded by entering nine digits roll number and six digit registration form number. The score card will have validity for one year.

Results & Score card will be available on official website of MAT May on 2nd week of June.

MAT Counselling & Admission

The counselling for MAT is going to be conducted in the month of June / July. For appearing in the counseling process, students require confirming their ranking as counseling will be held on the basis of ranking on different dates. Ensure to choose your desired course. You should choose some institutes in which you are willing to seek admission.

  • Almost every Management colleges in India accept the MAT score for the admission. Each college will have their own cut off marks for the MAT score. Along with this some of the colleges have their own admission procedure for the admission.
  • The applicant needs to check their rank.
  • The counseling date will be provided according to their rank.

  • The counseling will be done on the basis of the performance in the aptitude test.
  • The candidates need to show all their original documents and self attested copies.
