CUSAT CAT - Cochin University Common Admission Test

CUSAT Common Admission Test (CAT) is been conducted by Cochin University of Science and Technology, the university was established in 1986 for the development of higher education. CUSAT University conducts 3 types of entrance exams every year like: Common Admission Test (CAT), Lateral Entry Test (LET) and Departmental Admission Test (DAT).

On the basis of these tests, candidates can get admission in the UG, PG and Ph. D programmes of the university in various streams of academic and professional education.

CUSAT CAT Eligibility criteria

The criteria are separate for each and every programme which is offered by the PDPU University.

 Eligibility criteria  are mentioned below:-

  • Candidates must qualify 10+2 examination or any other equivalent examination of the state of Kerala with a minimum aggregate of 50% marks in Mathematics and 50% marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together.
  • Candidates belong to the Kerala Scheduled Tribe (KST) and Kerala Scheduled Cast (KSC) communities are eligible only if they have minimum pass marks in the qualifying examination except for Marine Engineering.

In case of PG Programmes, SEBC-NCL candidates of Kerala state are eligible for 5% relaxation in the minimum required marks for qualifying examination unless otherwise specified.
Candidates with a valid GATE score card are eligible for 5% relaxation in the qualifying examination marks for M. Tech Programmes.

  • Candidates who apply for the B. Tech programme, they have to qualify the 12th examination of the state of Kerala or any other examination accepted as equivalent thereto with PCM.
  • Candidates who apply for MBA programmes, they have to pass MAT 2017/ CMAT 2017/ CAT 2017.
  • Those candidates want to get admission in M. Tech programme (except Marine engineering) they have to clear GATE 2019 or DAT 2019 (conducted by the university).

CUSAT CAT Application Form & fees

The application form will be available through online process from the official portal. The form will be available from the 3rd week of January 2019 till 3rd week of February 2019 for Indian & NRI candidates,

For International/PIO/Children of Indian Gulf workers, the form will be available till last week of April 2019.
Candidates are required to upload the required online; they are not required to send any documents.

Candidates can pay the fee through Online or offline mode. Candidates those applying for the Post-Doctoral, Ph. D, M. Phil, Diploma & Certificate Programmes, they have to submit the require fee at the concerned departments in the form of DD from SBT or SBI drawn in favour of The Register, CUSAT and Payable at Ernakulum. 

CUSAT CAT Syllabus & Exam Pattern

The exam patterns are different for First year B. Tech degree programme and Lateral Entry B. Tech programmes.

The First Year B. Tech Exam Pattern:

  • will be conducted through online process (CBT).
  • The question paper will comprise in 250 objective types multiple choice questions.
  • 125 questions will be asked from Mathematics and 125 questions from Physics and Chemistry.
  • The duration of this exam will be three hours.
  • The question paper will be of 750 marks.
  • Each correct response 3 marks will be awarded and for wrong answer 1 mark will be deducted.

The Lateral Entry B. Tech Exam Pattern:

  • The CUSAT CAT 2019 will be conducted through online process (CBT).
  • The question paper will consist of 200 objective type questions.
  • 20 questions will be asked from English, 50 from Mathematics, 40 from engineering Mechanics, 40 from Engineering Graphics and 50 from General Engineering.
  • The duration of this test will be 3 hours.
  • The maximum mark will be 600.
  • Each correct response 3 marks will be awarded and for wrong answer 1 mark will be deducted.

CUSAT CAT Admit Card

  • The admit card will be available in the official website to download from the last week April 2019.
  • Candidates will be entrained inside the examination hall only with the admit card and any of the identity proof like Voter ID card/School or college Identity Card/Passport/Aadhar Card or Driving Licence.
  • The admit card will not be sent by post; admit cards will be available only online.

CUSAT CAT Results & Score Card

  • The results will be announced in the official portal in the last week of May 2019; the merit list will be prepared and will be published on the portal which will be on the basis of the performance of the candidate in the exam.
  • The candidates can download the result by entering their roll no; results will be only available online.

CUSAT CAT Counselling & Admission

The counselling/Admission will be held from the 2nd week of July 2019 and the schedule will be posted on the official portal.

  • Candidates will not receive any call letters or communication by post.
  • The counselling schedule and the registration will be done only through the login portal; registered candidates will be allotted seats as per their rank and availability of the seats.
  • Candidates have to register and fill in the option of courses and institutes according to their preference and also have to submit the required documents for verification.
  • The admission will be based on the valid score/rank in the prescribed test/examination and score that is obtained in the group discussion/interview.

The distributions of the seats are given below:

State Merit Seats (SM):

 Out of the total approved seats of Self-financing B Tech Programmes 50% are earmarked as State Merit Seats with lower rate of fees. Keralite, as defined in this prospectus, and who have selected Keralite status in the on-line application alone can opt for State Merit Seats.

All India Merit Seats (AIM):

Out of the total approved seats of Self-financing B Tech Programmes 40% seats are earmarked as All India Merit Seats with higher rate of fees. Both Keralite and Non-Keralite candidates can opt for AIM seats.

All India Quota (AIQ):

 For the regular B Tech Programmes viz .B Tech in (Naval Architecture and Ship Building), B Tech (Instrumentation Technology) and B Tech (Polymer Science Engineering) and for all programmes other than B Tech Programmes 10% of the total approved seats are earmarked as All India quota. Both Keralite and Non-Keralite are eligible to be considered against AIQ. The remaining seats are reserved for candidates who are Keralite as defined in this prospectus and who have opted Keralite status during the on-line application process.

Non-Resident Indian Seats (NRI):

Out of the total approved seats of B Tech self-financing programmes, 10% seats are set apart as NRI seats with a different fee structure. Similarly 10% of the total seats of LLB and LLM programmes and all undergraduate and post graduate programmes that do not require AICTE approval are reserved for NRI candidates on supernumerary basis. NRI Status is not essential to apply for these seats. Those who intend to be considered to NRI seats should choose NRI as special reservation and in the case of B Tech Programmes shall invariably opt for AIM seats at the time of option registration. Candidates who applied as NRI shall be considered to SM seats only if they opt for the same as one of their choices during option
Registration and if they are eligible for the same.

Candidates are required to apply for the exam centre at the time of filling up the online application form. Once the exam city is been allotted, then request for change of city will not be permitted at any circumstances
