Anna University conducts an entrance test in the name TNEA abbreviated as Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission Test to check the eligibility of the candidate’s willing to seek admission in engineering domain.

TNEA is a national level entrance examination in which more than 1.5 lakhs of students participate every year to get place in more than 500 engineering institutes in Tamil Nadu state. The details regarding the entrance examination is mentioned in the below article.

TNEA 2021 Eligibility criteria

Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission Exam has set certain criteria for the students to get eligible for appearing the entrance examination. However the eligibility set by this institute is easily to fulfill but based on the fulfillment of the eligibility criteria only the seat will be allotment to the candidates to take admission in the colleges.

TNEA eligibility for Native candidates:

  • Candidates appearing for TNEA should be of age not more than 26 years.
  • The minimum qualification required is candidates should have completed 12th/intermediate from a recognized board.
  • Candidates should minimum attain 50% aggregate for general category and 45% for reserved category candidates in mandatory subjects like Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
  • Candidates should have passed their 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th from Tamil Nadu state itself.

TNEA eligibility for Marine Engineering:

  • Candidates should secure a minimum of 60% score in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English.
  • The minimum weight of the candidate should be 48 kg and minimum height should be 157cms along with a normal vision.

TNEA eligibility for other state candidates:

  • A minimum of 50% aggregate score in 12th from a recognized board in mandatory subjects like physics, chemistry and mathematics are mandatory to seek admission.

Application Form for TNEA will be released in the month of May every year through online mode from the “TNEA, Anna University” official website. The application form can be easily accessed and submitted online along with the required documents post application form fee payment.

Steps to apply for TNEA:

Step 1: Visit TNEA official website and click on Online Application link.

Step 2: Click on the Next option after reading the guidelines.

Step 3: Enter the mandatory details and click on Register option.

Step 4: Click on OK button on the popped up validation box.

Step 5: Login with the Enter email Id, password and verification code.

Step 6: After making the payment and click on Generate Application and Confirm option.

Step 7: Take the print out of the same for further reference.

Other State Candidates Application Form: Registration for the other state candidates except Tamil Nadu will be in the month of June. The application procedure will be the same for all the candidates except for the date. The notification for the dates will be announce d by the Anna University officials through its official website.

TNEA Random Number:

Random number will be allotted to the candidates after successful submission of TNEA application form. The main motto to allot these random numbers is to avoid the tie break down of criteria of two or more candidates.  To check the random number candidates can login in with their login credentials.

Random numbers are been allocated to the candidates by the university after analyzing the eligibility of the candidates.  Random number serves as a unique code used in tie-breaking policy. It is a 10 digit unique number allocated to the candidates to resolve the conflict in case any two or more candidates attain the same rank.

Steps to check TNEA Random numbers:

Step 1: Visit TNEA official website and login with login id and password.

Step 2: Post logging in the assigned TNEA random number will appear on the screen.

TNEA 2021 Syllabus & Exam Pattern

As the entire selection process is based on counselling and merit listing and candidates need not appear for any examinations, there can be no syllabus for the examination. The merit list is prepared on the basis of the marks scored by the candidates in the higher secondary examination and higher is the score of the candidates, better will be their chances to get admission to the courses.

Screening is done entirely based on the merit list that the university prepares on the basis of the marks candidates scores in Higher Secondary examination as well as meeting another point of eligibility, as prescribed by the University. The university will process the applications received from the candidates and will prepare a merit list. All the open positions will be filled through this merit list and there is no provision of any screening examination linked with this process. 

TNEA 2021 Admit Card

There is no provision for Admit card for this screening as candidates will not have to appear for any examination, but admissions are made based on counselling and merit list prepared by the university, based on the academic scores and the candidates meeting other prescribed eligibility criteria.

TNEA 2021 Results & Score Card

The admission authorities of TNEA will declare the result in the month of June. The result will be declared through the Anna University official website. The admission will be based on the score attained in the 12th examination. The merit list to take admission in Tamil Nadu Engineering institute will be declared by the concerned authorities. Applicants who successfully satisfy the eligibility criteria set by the university will be eligible to seek admission in their respective colleges through TNEA score.

Step 1: Visit TNEA official website and navigate to Check Results.

Step 2: Login with the login Id and Password.

Step 3: Take the printout of the score card for further use.

TNEA 2021 Counselling & Admission

Counseling for the TNEA Entrance Examination will be started soon after the declaration of results. Candidates with an appropriate score in TNEA will be eligibility to attend the counseling process and the seat will be allotted based on the merit rank.

Three types of counseling:

  • Special Counseling: For the candidates seeking admission through various quotas such as Sports quota, Differently Abled and Ex-Serviceman children.
  • Vocational Counseling
  • General Counseling: Candidates applied for the counseling through general category i.e. regular counseling, comes under general counseling.

Candidates applying for counseling process will have to make the payment of INR 5000/- (in case of general category) and INR 1000/- (in case of reserved category) as an initial deposit through net banking/credit card/debit card by using TNEA official website.

Required documents for TNEA Counseling:

  • Class 10th and 12th marks sheets
  • Transfer certificate/Migration certificate
  • School leaving certificate.
  • Category Certificate (if applicable)
  • Nativity Certificate (if applicable)

All the above mentioned documents should be carried to the TNEA Facilitation Center (TFC) for the verification process. Candidates should carry the original documents along with the photocopy for verification.

TNEA Seat Reservation:

The admission authorities of Anna University, allocates the seats for the candidates based on the merit list. The foremost priority will be given to the Tamil Nadu candidates than the other state candidates. The choice opted by the candidates will be taken into consideration during seat allotment, and once the seat is allocated candidates will have to make the fee payment.

TNEA Rank List:

Rank list of TNEA will be prepared by the admission authorities of Anna University, taking into consideration the scores obtained in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. The rank list will be made available in the month of June for those candidates, who have successfully completed the online registration process.

Rank list is prepared based on the total marks i.e., 200 out of which 100 marks is been allocated to Mathematics and 100 marks to Physics + Chemistry. In case if two or more candidates obtain the same score the decision will be based on:

  • Percentage of marks in Physics
  • Percentage of marks obtained in Mathematics
  • Percentage of marks in the fourth optional subject
  • Random number assigned
  • Age of the candidate

Tie Breaking Criteria for TNEA:

In certain situation, if couple or more candidates will secure same score in 12th and it becomes a tie, based on certain criteria’s the tie can be broken between the candidate’s scores.

  • Percentage of marks in Mathematics
  • Based on age (with preference given to the older candidate)
  • If tie persists at this stage, random numbers assigned to candidates will be used to break the deadlock.
  • Percentage of marks in optional subject
  • Percentage of marks in Physics

In Eligibility criteria, what will be the Qualification criteria? 

Details on Eligibility criteria:

  • Qualification criteria: Aspirants should be qualified in their 10th, 12th exam (10+2 system) from a recognized board.
  • Compulsory subjects: Physics, Chemistry and Maths.  
  • Percentage criteria: 50% marks aggregate for General cadre, For SC/ST candidates 40% marks aggregate, for OBC candidates 45% marks aggregate. 
  • Domicile: the candidate has to belong to the state of Tamil Nadu in order to fulfill the Eligibility Criteria. 
  • The candidates who doesn’t belong to the state of Tamil Nadu, but they need to clear their 10+2 class from the state can also apply.
