CMAT or Common Management Admission Test happens to be a national level entrance test which is organized by AICTE or All India Council for Technical Education. This online computer based entrance examination is conducted for providing admission to students in various management courses. A large number of candidates apply for this entrance test every year. The entrance examination provides admission to students in more than 1000 business schools in India. Almost 59,181 students appeared for this entrance test out of which only 2 students secured 100 percentile.

Almost 1000 business schools that are affiliated to AICTE accept the CMAT scores for providing admission to the deserving students. After the announcement of the results of the entrance examination, these management institutes will be releasing their own cutoff. The cut off and selection criteria differ for each college. The selection procedure consists of a personal interview and written test. A few of the colleges conduct group discussion round as well.

Candidates should have a fair knowledge of the examination pattern and syllabus which will help them to confer a grand performance in the examination. The questions in the entrance examination are objective type. There are 100 multiple choice questions in the entrance test. There is a time allotment of 180 minutes for answering these questions. 4 marks are awarded for each correct answer whereas there is a deduction of 1 mark for every wrong answer. There are 4 sections and each section comprises of 25 questions.

It is essential to meet the eligibility criteria of AICTE for appearing in CMAT entrance test. Failing to meet the eligibility criteria may lead to disqualification of the candidate at a later off stage. Almost all the business schools recognized by AICTE accept the CMAT score.

CMAT Exam Date

CMAT will be conducted on 28th and 29th of the month of January. The answer key is released after one or two weeks of the entrance test. The scorecard will be released on 9th February.

CMAT Eligibility criteria

AICTE has set eligibility norms for appearing in the CMAT entrance test. Candidates must be a citizen of India in order to appear for the test. Candidates should hold at least graduation degree for appearing for the test.

Students who have completed their graduation degree in arts, commerce and science are eligible for applying for the examination. Candidates in the final year of graduation are eligible for applying for the entrance test.

General candidates should have a score of at least 50 % in graduation whereas scheduled tribe and scheduled caste should obtain 45 %. The bachelor degree should be of at least 3 years duration. For executive PGDM, a work experience of 5 years is mandatory.

  • AICTE has set some eligibility criteria for the candidates to appear for the test. The applicant must go through the eligibility criteria , before filling the application form.
  • The applicant must be a citizen of India.
  • The candidate must be a graduate from any recognized university or institutions.
  • The final student appearing for graduation whose result will be released before the start of the academic year 2019-2020 session are also eligible for CMAT 2018 exam.

CMAT Application Form & fees

Candidates who are willing to appear for CMAT entrance test need to fill the application form online. The application form of CMAT was available from 10th October . The last date of registration of the test is December 10th 

For appearing inthe test, candidates need to enter a New User and fill the registration form after entering basic details. A 6 digit password is generated after submission of the form. The password will be sent to the student by SMS and email. 

Candidates need to login into the registration portal by using the user ID and password for filling the application form and paying the application fee. General candidates require paying a non-refundable application fee of Rs. 1400  whereas reserved category candidate require paying the nonrefundable fees of Rs. 700. The fees can be paid by Debit card, credit card, net banking, cash.

  • The candidates interested for CMAT exam need to apply for the application form online and register themselves.
  • The form will get released in the first week of Novenmber
  • The candidates should visit the official website and fill and submit the application form. 
  • All the details to be provided correctly by the candidate.
  • A new user name will be provided and the self-registration form to be filled with basic details
  • Followed by the submission of the form and a password will be generated , the candidate will receive it through SMS or mail.
  • With the generated login id the applicant need to login the registration portal and fill the application form and payment of the fee to be made.


  • For General category- Rs.1400/-
  • For reserved category- Rs.700/-

The payment can be done via 2 ways:

Online Payment:  the payment can be done through online by using debit card/credit card/net banking
Once the payment is done, the candidate will receive a confirmation by SMS or Mail.

Cash:  Cash payment to be done by SBI Bank. The payment can be done in any branch of SBI. Once the candidate start the procedure, a CHALLAN will appear filled with all the details. 3 Print outs to be taken of the challan  and walk-in to the nearest branch of SBI with the cash. Cash deposit will be taken only after the next day of the Challan generation.

CMAT Syllabus & Exam Pattern

The questions in CMAT entrance examination are multiple-choice questions. 180 minutes are allowed for attempting these questions. 4 marks are awarded for each correct answer whereas there is a deduction of 1 mark for every wrong answer. There are four sections in the test and each section consists of only 25 questions. Each section carries 100 marks.

The syllabus of CMAT comprises of General Awareness, Logical Reasoning, Language Comprehension, Data Interpretation and Quantitative Techniques.

  • The CMAT exam is computer based.
  • The questions are objective type MCQ Pattern. 
  • Total duration of the test is 180 minutes. 
  • There is negative marking for each wrong answer, 1 mark will be deducted.4 marks for each correct answer. 
  • No breaks will be given.  A scratch paper will be provided and the candidate needs to leave that back in the exam center.

CMAT Admit Card

After successful completion of the application form, candidates are released admit card. The admit card can be downloaded from the official website of the organizing body. The admit card of CMAT will be released to all the registered candidates, in the first week of January.

The admit card consists of necessary information about the candidate which include name and roll number of the candidate, time, date, and venue of the examination. It is mandatory to carry the admit card at the time of examination.

CMAT Results & Score Card

AICTE will declare the results of CMAT on 9th February. Candidates can check the results on the official website of AICTE. 

Candidates need to login into their account with their login credentials for checking the result and downloading the score card of CMAT. The score card will comprise of the sectional and total percentile, sectional and total score and all Indian rank.

CMAT Counselling & Admission

The CMAT counseling will start tentatively in May. Candidates who are willing to seek admission in the management courses offered by AICTE approved colleges must attend the counseling. There will be allotment of college to the candidate in accordance with the ranking in the merit list. 

Thus, after the announcement of the results, the organizing body will prepare the merit list and send the same to different management colleges for allowing the seats via central counseling. If there is no counseling, students can apply for the management colleges according to the score card.

What are the eligibility criteria of CMAT?

  • Aspirants should be a graduate from a recognized university with minimum 50% aggregate (45% in case of SC/ST).

  • For CMAT exam, The Total Number of questions is 100.
