GATE 2024 Application Form, Exam Dates, Eligibility, Pattern and Syllabus

 Entrance Examination GATE, known for engineering admissions, will be conducted as per the schedule announced by the examination authority. The candidates might note some of the tentative important dates related to this entrance examination. Here are some of the details that the candidates can check about the schedule of GATE 2024, which is mentioned below.

Candidates preparing to appear for GATE 2024 should be well-versed in that the authorities have made some major changes in the eligibility criteria. Knowing the set standards will help all the candidates know about their ability before filling the online application form. The candidates should be aware that once the authority feels that the candidate doesn’t fulfill the criteria, the application may be considered disqualified. 

• As per the new relaxations announced by IIT Kanpur for GATE 2024 Eligibility criteria, the minimum qualification requirement, which was earlier boards exams + 4 years of UG, and is now reduced to a minimum of 3 years (ongoing) for this year, i.e., 3rd-year students are also eligible to take up the exam. 
• And also, now the candidate can choose 2 subjects/ papers from the stated set of subject combinations, whereas previously, candidates were allowed to choose only 1 paper. 
•  Candidates of any age group can apply for the exam with no age-restrictions.
• These are the essential criteria for Indian applicants, and foreign applicants need to fulfill some additional required eligibility criteria. 

Eligibility Criteria for B.E./B.Tech/B-Pharm Students

The aspirant should have a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology (currently in 3rd year  after 10+2 / Diploma in Engineering) with an expected year of completion being  2024. 

Eligibility criteria for B.Arch. Students

The student must have a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture (5-year course) / Planning (4- year course) and is considered if currently in the 3rd year or higher or already completed.

Year of Completion expected will be 2024 (for the 5-year program) and 2022 (for the 4-year program)

Eligibility criteria for International students

NRI candidates must have completed their degree or, in the final year, their bachelor’s degree in engineering and technology.  Aspiring Candidates from places like Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and the United Arab Emirates can apply for GATE. The minimum duration of the UG course should be 3 years.

The candidates need to follow specific steps to apply for GATE 2024. The application/ registration process for GATE 2024 involves a set of the following stages: Registration,  GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) Password, getting GOAPS Enrolment ID,  Filling the Application, and Uploading scanned Photographs and other Supporting Documents, Online Fees Payment, etc.

Step1: Registration through GOAPS:

• Visit the official website of GATE.
• The candidate should Register as a “New User” and continue as mentioned in the given guide. 
• After the successful registration, the candidate will access GOAPS with the login credentials of what they have entered, such as name, valid email ID, and mobile number.
• Later the candidate can generate their own password after giving all the relevant information.

Setting GOAPS Password:                           

• While creating the password, the applicants should note that they must complete the password, which cannot be cracked easily.
• It is advisable that applicants not use their name, date of birth, or easily guessable string of alphabets or numbers that are evident to be used.
• The candidate should try creating an alpha-numerical password with some special characters, confirming the registration.

GOAPS Enrolment ID:

• Once the registration is successful, the candidates will receive an e-mail that contains the GOAPS Enrolment ID. And this ID is necessary to log in for filling the application form online for GATE 2024.

Step 2: Filling GATE 2024 Application Process:

• The next step is, applicants, have to fill in the application form for GATE 2024 with all Personal information, including Name, Date of Birth, and including all other academic requirements of information,
• For that, the student should click on the 'Start the GATE 2024 Application Process' tab.
• Personal Details: Name, Date of Birth, Gender, Nationality, Category,  (if the person is with Disability Status), Country of Permanent Residence, State, ID Proof and, Name of Parent/Guardian, Residence of Parent/Guardian, Mobile Number of Parent/Guardian, etc.
• Eligibility details:  previous education details with the name of the college, address, and details relating to aggregate marks and such.  
  • The candidates should be aware of the  GATE paper and an examination center.

Step 3: Uploading of Scanned Documents:

In this step, candidates should upload their recent photograph, signature, and other documents (if required) digitally according to the exam conducting authorities' needs. 

• High quality scanned photograph and signature (JPEG format).
• Scanned images (JPEG format) of UG certificates/ mark sheets (all semesters)
• Scanned copy of category certificate (if needed) in PDF format.

Step 4: Preview of Application Form:

• Before proceeding to the final step, i.e., online fee payment, the portal will show the GATE 2024 application form.
• If any to make, the final changes can be done, and once the candidate clicks on the ‘Confirm and Final Submit’ button, there won’t be any chances to make any changes.
• All students are suggested to check their given information for any mistakes thoroughly.
• Lastly, Click on “Confirm and Submit.”

Step 5: Payment of Application Fees:

• The payment of the application fees can be made online, such as a net banking/debit card/credit card. 
• After the payment is made, the candidates will be redirected to the GOAPS website for the final submission of the form. 

Note: The application fee of GATE 2024 differs for Indian candidates and NRI candidates.

Before appearing for the GATE 2024 entrance exam, candidates must be aware of the Exam Pattern. This might help the candidates know about the details like the mode of examination, marking criteria, section if there is any negative marking, type of questions, the total number of questions and quotes, duration of exam, etc. This will help the candidate to have better preparations for the exam.

GATE 2024 is a 3-hour computer-based exam where candidates will have to attend 65 questions carrying 100 marks. A new type of question pattern has been added in GATE 2024, i.e., Multiple Select Question, MSQ. And there is no negative marking for this exam.

GATE 2024 Syllabus

As stated earlier, IIT Kanpur has newly introduced two subjects, namely- Environmental Science and Engineering (ES) and Humanities and Social Science (XH). The total number of subjects in GATE 2024 has increased from 25 to 27. The GATE 2024 Syllabus will be based on their graduation level for their respective disciplines.

The GATE 2024 Admit card includes all exam-related details and candidate-specific details like –name of the student, exam date, exam timings, registration number of the student, exam center details, and all the important instructions about the entrance exam. While downloading the GATE 2024 hall ticket, candidates must verify all the details printed on it.

GATE 2024 Admit Card Instructions        

Candidates must follow the necessary instructions before downloading and printing the GATE 2024 admit card/hall ticket. Some of the important points are:

The registration number of GATE 2024 must be clearly mentioned on the admit card.

Candidates must verify all the stated details given on the GATE 2024 admit card.

Candidates’ scanned Photograph and Signature should be clear.

Candidates’ Signature should tally both on the day of the exam and on the admit card.

In case a candidate finds any mistakes in his/her admit card, it must be immediately reported to the notice of the concerned authority.

Documents Required with GATE 2024 Admit Card

In addition to GATE admit card, the candidate must also carry a valid Photo Id proof to prove your identity, such as: 

• Passport
• Driving License
• PAN Card
• Voter ID
• Aadhaar ID

GATE 2024 results are tentatively expected to be released by March 2024, and the candidates can check their products from the GOAPS website. One important thing that the candidate must remember is that GATE marks and scores are two separate considerations. GATE 2024 marks will be calculated out of 100, while the GATE scores will be extracted out of 1000 after the normalization of the score. Many of the public sectors consider the score secured in GATE for their recruitment purposes.

Step 3: Enter the admit card details like enrollment ID, Registration ID, and Password.

Step 4: once the verification is done, click on the ‘Submit’ button

Step 5: The result will be displayed on the website; the candidate can verify and download the scorecard.  

COAP and CCMT carry out the counseling process for GATE 2024. After the results have been declared, the candidates shall apply for counseling, and for that, the candidates will have to pay an individual registration fee.

• COAP counseling is done when the candidate desires admission to the IITs. The aspiring candidate has to complete the online registration process and fill in the application forms of respective IITs they want entries. At COAP, students can instantly see their counseling result of seat allotment made in the institute in which they have applied. 
•  GATE 2024 CCMT counseling process is conducted to offer admission for candidates willing to do postgraduate programs at NITs and other participating institutes. 

GATE 2024 Cut off

Another important aspect for an aspirant to know is about GATE qualifying and Admission cut off:

GATE Qualifying Cut Off: The minimum marks that candidates should secure to qualify for the GATE exam might differ for different subject combinations chosen by the candidate. Also, it will vary based on the category of the candidates. GATE qualifying cut off changes every year and will be updated by the conducting body. 

GATE Admission Cut Off: This is the minimum number of marks needed to get admission to the college. Here cut-off is announced by individual institutes depending on the number of seats, the number of applicants and category of applicants, etc. the candidates should validate all these terms and then appear for the entrance exam in the interesting category.

Candidates can go through the list of engineering colleges/institutes that accept GATE scores to evaluate institutes better.

While filling the GATE 2024 application form, candidates should select their preferred exam centers for examination. Through Allotment of GATE exam center for each registered candidate will be done based on choice filled by candidate and availability of seats.
