Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET), formerly known as  Central Institute of Plastics Engineering & Technology. It came into existence in 1968 with the tie-up of UNDP ( United Nations Development Program) and ILO (International Labor Organization). The primary goal of establishing this specialized Institute was to produce people in various plastics engineering and technology fields since no similar institute exists in India. At present, there are various CIPET campuses across the country. It comprises 43 operational centers, and 9 more centers are still in progress to cater to the needs of polymer and allied industries. Moreover, the CIPET Chennai campus is the headquarters for all the other CIPET campuses in India. Therefore, it is recognized by various Govt. In addition, organizations like DST, DRDO, and ISRO carry out research and development projects.

CIPET Chennai met the intended goals during the first project period, which ran from 1968 to 1973, and was recognized as one of the most effective UNDP programs ever carried out globally. Today, CIPET is a leading academic institution for higher and technical education and is part of the Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers of the Government of India. It is fully committed to all plastics-related fields, including design, CAD/CAM/CAE, tooling and mold manufacturing, production engineering, Testing, and quality assurance. In addition, CIPET serves the demands of the polymer and related sectors from several national sites.

The college offers several courses related to plastic technology & engineering for future engineers. AICTE approves all the CIPET Chennai Courses and is affiliated with Anna University. Institute offers admission to the B Tech in Plastic Technology and Manufacturing Technology at the UG level. Furthermore, the college offers M Tech in Plastic Technology, Polymer Nano Technology, and CAD/CAM at the PG level. In addition, MSc is available in Polymer Science and MSc (Engg). Apart from UG and PG Courses, CIPET Chennai PG Diploma courses are available in two streams.

CIPET serve as a workshop for designing the future, where students collaborate with professionals and academics who have won several honors to put what they have learned and discovered into practice.

With planned fund assistance from the Government of India, all CIPET centers are outfitted with cutting-edge equipment and first-rate facilities in design, CAD/CAM/CAE, tooling and mold manufacturing, processing plastics, Testing, and quality assurance. In addition, CIPET College Chennai consistently improves and modernizes machinery, equipment, and technology to meet the plastic industries' demands and constantly changing demands.

CIPET Chennai Admission

  • CIPET Chennai B Tech admission is granted based on the student's performance in the entrance test. In addition, students must have completed H.Sc. or 10+2 in Physics, Chemistry, and Maths with at least 55% marks. The final admission will be granted based on CIPET JEE Main.
  • Candidates for the M Tech in CIPET Chennai must hold a valid CIPET JEE score card and a BE or B.Tech degree with a min of 60% marks. Graduation grades are taken into account while making admission decisions.
  • Candidates for the M. Sc. program must possess a B.Sc. degree in chemistry as one of the topics and shall have obtained a minimum of 50% in the overall grade. CIPET JEE results are used as the foundation for merit-based selection.

About CIPET JEE

CIPET Joint Entrance Exam is a national-level entrance exam conducted once a year. The medium of language is English and Hindi. It is a gateway for secure admission into 14 CIPET Campuses across India. The exam is 2 hours long, and it will be held online. The mode of CIPET JEE registration is online. While the application fee is INR 500 (for the general category)
