NIMCET  - National Institute Of Technology Master Of Computer Applications Common Entrance Test

National Institute of Technology Master of Computer Applications Common Entrance Test (NIMCET) is been conducted for admission into under graduate Courses in ten branches and Post Graduate Courses in twenty-one disciplines of Science, Engineering & Technology besides M.S. (by Research) and Ph.D. in all the departments.

Through NIMCET 2018 exam they offer admission into MCA course offered by 11 participating NITs (Warangal/ Tiruchirapalli/ Surathkal/ Raipur/ Kurukshetra/ Jamshedpur/ Durgapur/ Calicut/ Bhopal/ Allahabad/ Agartala). The Curricula and Syllabi of Master of Computer Applications (MCA) course offered by NITT is designed considering the need of different Software Houses in India and abroad and has a high job potential in IT Sector in India and abroad.

NIMCET Eligibility criteria

The candidates must fulfill the eligibility criteria given below before filling the application form:-

  • The candidates must have 60% or 6.5 CGPA on a 10 point scale (General & OBC candidates) in 3 years full-time B. Sc/B. Sc (Hons)/ BCA/ BIT or related course.
  • Reserved category candidates, including SC/ST/PwD, have to secure 55% marks or 6.0 CGPA on a 10 point scare
  • Candidates having B. Tech/BE or equivalent degree holders from recognized university are also eligible to apply.
  • Candidates appearing in the qualifying exam are also eligible to apply for the exam but they need to have a valid proof.
  • Candidates appearing in B. Sc/B. Sc (Hons)/BCA/BIT of 3 years full-time from Open universities are also eligible, provided their course is approved by UGC/AICTE & DEC of Govt. of India.
  • The percentile of marks in qualifying degree will be calculated on the basis of scores of all subjects studied including language/ optional & additional subjects if they have any.
  • The candidate must be citizen of India.

NIMCET Application Form & fees

  • The application forms will be available online from the 2nd week of February, 2018 in the official portal http://www.nita.ac.in
  • The applicants have to register themselves in the website and create a login ID to fill the form, candidates are required to submit the application form before the last date, incase if it is been received late, then applications will be directly be rejected.
  • While filling the online form the candidates must attach their scanned copy of recent passport size photograph and scanned copy of the signature.

The Application fee:

  • Gen/OBC Candidates: -  Rs.1800
  • SC/ST Candidates: -         Rs.900


The fee can be paid through online and offline modes:
Online Mode: - Candidates can fill the form online and pay through Internet Banking/ Debit Card/ Credit Card.

Offline Mode:- Candidates have to fill the application form online and submit it, after the submission  candidates are required to take the printout of the application form and send it along with the e-receipt of payment and other documents through speed/registered post at the address given below:

NIMCET Syllabus & Exam Pattern

  • The examination will be for duration of two and a half hours and consists of 120 multiple choice questions with four choices for each question.
  •  Each correctly answered question carries FOUR marks and each wrongly answered question invites NEGATIVE ONE mark.
  • The candidates have to mark the responses in the OMR sheets supplied at the time of examination. Candidates have to bring their own HB pencil, eraser and ball point pen.
  • Calculators, mobile phones or any other materials will not be allowed in the examination hall.

The syllabus for NIMCET 2018 is given below:-

MATHEMATICS : ( 50 questions)

Set Theory: Concepts of sets – Union – Intersection – Cardinality – Elementary counting, permutations and combinations.

Probability and Statistics: Basic concepts of probability theory, Averages, Dependent and independent events, frequency distributions, measures of central tendencies and dispersions.

Algebra: Fundamental operations in Algebra, Expansions, Factorization, simultaneous linear/quadratic equations, indices, logarithms- arithmetic, geometric and harmonic progressions, determinants and matrices. Coordinate

Geometry: Rectangular Cartesian coordinates, distance formulae, equations of a line, intersection of lines, pair of straight lines, equations of a circle, parabola, ellipse, and hyperbola.

Calculus: Limit of functions, Continuous functions, Differentiation of functions, tangents and normal, simple examples of maxima and minima. Integration of function by parts, by substitution and by partial fraction; Definite integrals, Applications of Definite Integrals to areas. Vectors: Position vector, addition and subtraction of vectors, scalar and vector products and their applications to simple geometrical problems and mechanics.

Trigonometry: Simple identities, trigonometric equations, properties of triangles, solution of triangles, heights and distances, General solutions of trigonometric equations.

ANALYTICAL ABILITY AND LOGICAL REASONING: (40 questions)
The questions in this section will cover logical reasoning and quantitative aptitude. Some of the questions will be on comprehension of a logical situation and questions based on the facts given in the passage.

COMPUTER AWARENESS: (10 questions)

Computer Basics: Organization of a Computer, Central Processing Unit (CPU), Structure of instructions in CPU, input / output devices, computer memory, back-up devices. Data Representation: Representation of characters, integers and fractions, binary and hexadecimal representations.

Binary Arithmetic: Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, simple arithmetic and two’s complement arithmetic, floating point representation of numbers, Boolean algebra, truth tables, Venn diagrams.

GENERAL ENGLISH: (20 questions)

Questions in this section will be designed to test the candidates’ general understanding of the English language. There will be questions on the following topics. Comprehension, Vocabulary, Basic English Grammar (like usage of correct forms of verbs, prepositions and articles), Word power, Synonyms and Antonyms, Meanings of words and phrases, Technical writing.

NIMCET Admit Card

The candidates are supposed to download their admit card online, the card will not be sent through post or email. The admit card will be available from the first week of May, 2018 till the late week of May 2018 .

In case your NIMCET Admit Card 2018 is not available for downloading, then the candidates must send an e-mail before the specified date giving details of the candidate’s application number and proof for remittance of fee and telephone enquiries will not be entertained. The exam controller will issue a duplicate admit card, without admit card the candidates will not be allowed in the examination hall.

NIMCET Results & Score Card

The result will be available in the official website from the second week of June, 2018 in the PDF format, candidates can download their result by entering their Hall ticket ID number. The rank list will be prepared on the basis of the marks obtained in the entrance exam. A common cutoff list will be prepared by the NIMCET 2018 exam body for all the participating NIT’s.

Candidates, who secure zero or negative marks in Mathematics are supposed to be disqualified from the selection process. The exam body decides and allots NIMCET 2018 ranks on the basis of the marks obtained by qualified candidates in NIMCET 2018 through the below listed criteria:

The marks obtained by candidates in Mathematics, Logical Reasoning, Computer Awareness, English, are multiplied by a factor of 3, 1, 2 and 1, respectively. The maximum weighted marks are 1000.
Ranking is done on the basis of total weighted marks obtained by the candidates.

NIMCET Counselling & Admission

The NIMCET Counselling 2018 will be divided in several phases, the complete counselling process can be checked below:

Choice filling and locking:

The NIMCET rank will be published by June, 2018 ; candidates are required to fill the choices of institutes as per their preference. All the candidates are required to lock their choices before 5:00 PM  and after 5:00 PM choices will be locked automatically. Candidates note down no changes will be allowed after locking.

Online Seat Allotment and personally reporting:

The seat allotment will be made on the basis of their choices and marks scored by the students in the entrance exam. Seat allotment will be done in three rounds. Candidates have to report to the allotted institute on the specified dates.

Admission to the Allotted Institute:

After the completion of all rounds of seats allotment, candidates are needed to be present at the allotted colleges to confirm their admission.

Surrendering seats:

Candidates who got seat allotted in any rounds (1 and 2) and do not want to join that allotted institute and wishes to participate in other round of seat allotment, then they have to report to the center and surrender the seat by submitting a prescribed application.

Final round of allotment:

Candidates who have surrendered their seats and who have not allotted any seats in other rounds of seats allotment will be eligible for the final round of allotment. The final round of allotment will be done on the 2nd to 3rd week of July, 2018 (Tentative). The candidates have to report to the allotted institute before the due date.
