# CAT 2018-19: How to Calculate the Percentile of Entrance Exam?

It is for the candidates who are seeking admissions in top B-schools like IIMs. It lets you analyze the percentage of candidates who scored less than you. Candidates must be aware of the methods used to calculate the CAT percentile.

Normalization process is used in the calculation of CAT percentile. This method is useful in linking the marks, allocation of ranks and recognizing the candidates score.

CAT 2018-19 which is scheduled on 25th of  November results will be announced in the 1st week of January.

CAT percentile calculation

• {1-(your rank in CAT 2018 divided by total number of candidates taking exam in 2018) multiplied by 100}

NB. No candidate can score 100 percentile in CAT as the CAT percentile indicates the percent of students you are ahead of.

• Usually it is calculated up to 3 decimals and then it will be rounded off to the closest possible figure.
• CAT is created using a set of statistically sketched questions.
• CAT percentile calculation is sub-normalized.
• 3 marks 2 awarded for each right answer.
• CAT exam scores are valid for a year.
• It will be converted to percentile and the toppers name will be highlighted.
• The calculation helps in shortlisting the candidates according to their percentile.

CAT results will be announced in the 1st week of January. Negative marking is applied and 1 mark is deducted for every wrong answer. Obviously, no mark will be deducted if the question is left unanswered.

To calculate the CAT percentile

For instance, if the total number of students appearing for CAT 2018 is 1, 00,000 and you score/rank in CAT 2018 about 3500

Then your percentile will be- 96.5

[1-(3500/1, 00,000)] MULTIPLIED BY 100

Basically CAT percentile reveals the number of students you are ahead of on the basis of your score.
