The National Testing Agency (NTA) has published the JEE Main 2026 Online registration guidelines. Candidates who wish to sit for JEE Main 2026 must thoroughly study the eligibility requirements, important dates, and detailed instructions before submitting the JEE Main 2026 application form. The registration process will be entirely online, and students are strongly encouraged to complete their application via the official NTA website promptly

JEE Main 2026 is the most popular national-level entrance examination for admission into Top engineering colleges in India, such as NITs, IIITs, and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs). Additionally, JEE Main serves as a qualifying exam for JEE Advanced, the exam used for admission into the prestigious IITs. Each year, lakhs of students register to take the exam. Thus, JEE is most likely one of the most competitive exams in India.

With the release of the JEE Main 2026 registration guidelines, NTA has clarified several topics, including the application process, documents needed, the examination pattern, and the eligibility criteria.

JEE Main 2026 Important Dates

NTA has announced the important dates of JEE Main 2026 for Session 1. All candidates who intend to apply for the Session 1 JEE Main 2026 should take note of these dates so they do not miss any important dates during the exam process.

The JEE Main 2026 application form for Session 1 will be available in November 2025. The entire application process is done online, and they need to submit the application form before the final date. JEE Main 2026 application form last date is scheduled for December 2025.

After the registration process has closed, NTA will release the admit card. The exam is scheduled in  January 2026. NTA will soon announce the JEE Main 2026 Session 1 Exam Date.

At the conclusion of the exam, the JEE Main 2026 result will be released shortly, expected by January or February 2026. They will be able to check their results on the official site with their application number and password. JEE Main 2026 Eligibility Criteria

NTA has updated the JEE Main 2026 Eligibility Criteria. Before filling out the application form, candidates are mandated to satisfy the eligibility criteria.

  • Academic Qualification: Applicants must have passed 10+2 in 2024 or 2025, and are eligible to apply. Those completing class 12th in 2026 are also eligible to apply.
  • Required Subjects: Candidates shall have studied Mathematics and Physics as main subjects. Along with any of the optional subjects like Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology or Technical Vocational Subject.
  • Number of Attempts: A candidate will be able to appear for three consecutive years. And, two attempts per year (January & April sessions)
  • Minimum qualifying marks: To get admission into NITs, CFTIs, and IITs, candidates are required to score a minimum of 75% marks in class 12th.

How to apply for JEE Main 2026?

The application procedure of the JEE Main 2026 involves different stages.

Step 1 – JEE Main 2026 Online Registration:

  • Head to the Official NTA website for JEE Main.
  • Find the link for online registration.
  • Enter basic details like name, email ID, mobile number and create a password.
  • After a successful registration, a unique application number will be created.

Step 2 – Filling Application Form:

  • Log in to your page with your application number and password.  
  • Provide personal details such as name, date of birth, category, gender and nationality.
  • Provide the academic details of Class 10th and 12th, including marks, subjects and year of passing.
  • Select the exam cities in order of preference.

Step 3 – Uploading Documents:

  • You must upload scanned copies of the passport-size photograph and signature in the given format.
  • Candidates from the Reserved Caste category will be expected to upload their caste category certificates if applicable.

Step 4 – Payment of Application Fee:

  • The JEE Main 2026 application fee can be paid online through a debit/credit card, net banking, UPI, or Paytm.
  • The fee varies for General, OBC SC/ST, and PwD candidates.

Step 5 – Confirmation Page:

  • After successful fee payment, download the confirmation page and keep the printout for future use.

JEE Main 2026 New Registration Guidelines

NTA has issued updated registration instructions for JEE Main 2026. In order to register both Session 1 and Session 2, candidates must ensure that their Aadhaar Card has the correct information.

The Aadhaar card should have the correct name, date of birth (identical to that of the Class 10 certificate), photograph, address, and father's name. Candidates are strongly recommended to verify their personal details in advance of registering.

In terms of candidates with disabilities (PwD), the NTA stated that the UDID card (Unique Disability ID) must be valid and renewed before applying.

The NTA has also provided advisories for candidates who are applying under reserved categories. Those candidates who are EWS, SC, ST, or OBC-NCL should confirm that the category certificate is valid and updated before applying.

JEE Main 2026 Exam Pattern

NTA has announced the JEE Main 2026 Exam Pattern for candidates aspiring to pursue B.E./B.Tech. Becoming well-acquainted with the exam pattern is important for students who want to achieve a good score in JEE Main 2026 and secure admission in top NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs.

The exam is conducted entirely online (computer-based test), and it comprises three sections: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Each section will have 25 questions, a total of 75 questions to answer.

Each subject is divided into 2 sections (A and B). Section A will consist of multiple-choice questions, and Section B will consist of numerical-value questions. In part B, students will be expected to answer all 5 numerical questions from each subject.

The total number of marks available for the paper is 300, based on 100 marks per subject. Students will be assigned a score of +4 for each correct answer and -1 for each wrong answer. The duration of the JEE Main Exam 2026 is 3 hours (180 minutes).
