Marine Engineering & Research Institute

Marine Engineering and Research Institute was established as Directorate of Marine Engineering Training in the year 1949 and currently it is known as Indian Maritime University. MERI is one of the well-known and best institutes for polyvalent officers and marine engineers training. The Institute offers 1 UG and 2 PG courses such as B.Tech, M.Tech and MBA in Marine discipline. The Institute’s Motto is ‘Samudra Gyanam Gyana Samudram’

• The Institute was started at the time of Independence so as to gratify the increasing necessities of marine engineers in the country.
• The Institute has gained its recognition and certification of ISO 9001:2008 with more than 6000 floating ambassadors of India sailing all over the world.
• The Institute has its own workshop with equipment, machine, diesel engine and steam engine for the purpose of training students and also to meet the requirements of AICTE and IMO.

MERI is having laboratories which includes Hydraulic Lab, Mechanical Lab, Electronic Lab, Control Lab, Electrical Lab, Computer Lab, Boiler Lab, Fire Fighting Lab, Marpol Lab, Seamanship Lab, Simulation Lab. The institute has 9 hotel buildings for the students inside the campus along with a well-stacked Library with journals, books, periodicals and videos.  The institute has an intake of 286 students for the courses offered such as B.Tech, MBA and M.Tech.
