Marine Engineering and Research Institute was founded as the Directorate of Marine Engineering Training in the year 1949. After the formation of the Indian Maritime University, MERI became part of the IMU Kolkata campus. It is one of the well-known and best institutes for marine engineers training. The Institute offers B.Tech, MBA, and M.Tech in the Marine discipline. The Institute’s Motto is ‘Samudra Gyanam Gyana Samudram’.

  • The Institute was started in 1949 so as to gratify the increasing necessities of marine engineers in the country.
  • The Institute has gained its recognition and certification of ISO 9001:2008. It highlights modern accreditation, training facilities, and compliance with international standards such as the STCW conventions.
  • The Institute has its own workshop with equipment, machines, a diesel engine and a steam engine for the purpose of training students and also to meet the requirements of IMO.

MERI has well-equipped labs amd modern computing facilities. It includes Hydraulic Lab, Mechanical Lab, Electronic Lab, Control Lab, Electrical Lab, Computer Lab, Boiler Lab, Fire Fighting Lab, Marpol Lab, Seamanship Lab, and Simulation Lab. The institute provides separate hostel facilities inside the campus along with a well-stacked Library with journals, books, periodicals and videos.  The institute takes in students for the courses offered such as B.Tech, MBA and M.Tech.

Can I get admission to LLB

The institute does not offer LLB course and candidates shall apply for the offered courses with minimum eligibility. Based on merit B.P. Poddar Institute of Management and Technology admissions will be given.

How to take admission to B.Tech in Marine Engineering & Research Institute

Candidates with previous academic merit will have to appear for institute conducted entrance exam IMU’s CET based on that Marine Engineering & Research Institute admissions to B.Tech will be given.

BE fee structure of Marine Engineering & Research Institute for Marine Engineering is approx. INR 9 lakhs for 4 years. So as for one year BE fee structure when divided will be INR 2.25 lakhs every year for 4 years.

In Marine Engineering & Research Institute, the fee structure for the course B.Tech Marine Engineering is INR 2.25L approximately. So for 4 years programme the fee is INR 9.00 lakhs.
