Institute of Medical Science (IMS BHU)

Institute of Medical Science, Varanasi, is one among the university's unit institutes called Banaras Hindu University located in Varanasi. This institute comprises three faculties: the faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Ayurveda, and the faculty of Dental Sciences.

• This is the only medical school under the Banaras Hindu University, and like every other medical college, it is a co-educational and residential college.
• This medical institute started functioning in 1960, consisting of 9 departments in the medicinal field and 8 Ayurveda departments.
• In 1971, the college was given the name Institute of Medical Sciences from the former name College of Medical Sciences.
• Presently it has 33 Modern Medicine departments, 10 Super Specialities departments, 4 Dentistry departments, and 11 Ayurveda departments and Nursing school.
• Institute of Medical Sciences- BHU fees are as minimal as possible because this is a public university operated under Banaras Hindu University. The MBBS fee is approx. INR 30,000 per annum and hostel fee should be paid separately.
• It has got the affiliation from its university, Banaras Hindu University, proudly offering medical, paramedical courses at UG and PG levels. A dental department offers BDS & MDS courses, and an Ayurveda department offering BAMS courses.
• IMS-BHU admissions for MBBS and BDS are made on a merit basis, and they will consider the NEET marks obtained by the candidates seeking admission for any of these courses.
• Likewise, Admission to BAMS and Nursing programs will be made based on the students’ performance in the university level entrance exam.
• The IMS-BHU campus is in the front and consists of a hospital, medical college, hostels, post office, playground, temple, and staff quarters.
