Aligarh Muslim University was entrenched during the year 1875 as a public central university in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. The institute was established by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan as Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental College and later was formed as a university under the approval of University Grants Commission.
Aligarh Muslim University was ranked 801-1000 in the QS World University Rankings of 2018 and ranked 601-800 in the world by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings of 2018.
