Since its founding in 1963, Basaveshwar Engineering College (BEC) in Bagalkot has experienced unwavering growth. The campus is located in Bagalkot, Karnataka. Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering were the only three engineering disciplines offered when it was opened as a private institute. It entered the government grant-in-aid code in 1968. The institute now has ten departments designated as R&D centers by VTU, Belagavi, and it provides nine undergraduate and eight graduate programs. BEC is proud to have been ranked in the 201-250 range at the all-India level for the 2019–20 academic year by the NIRF MHRD Ranking survey.

By 2003, the institution had added seven new UG and four new PG programs. Thus enhancing the student's strength from 300 to 2300+ and faculty strength from 20 to 140. The college has been selected  for the Technical Education Quality Improvement Program (TEQIP-I, 2004-2009) of MHRD, New Delhi. In 2007, the College received academic autonomy from UGC, New Delhi, after successfully using the Rs. 14.16 crores TEQIP-I funding for scaling up UG programs. The College was chosen for TEQIP-II based on merit due to its performance in TEQIP-I.

Basaveshwar engineering college courses are AICTE approved, and NBA accredited. The College offers BE/B Tech at the UG level and MBA and M Tech at the PG level. Under B Tech, aided and unaided specializations are available. Civil, CSE, ECE, EEE, Industrial Production, and MECH are aided specializations. The un-aided B Tech specializations are Bio-Tech, Civil, CSE, IT, and AI & ML. At the same time, the annual intake varies from 30 to 120 seats. BCE offers M Tech in five major branches.
