The Round 1 seat allotment results are on 14 June. Along with the schedule, JoSAA published guidelines for the academic year. All aspiring candidates to take admission to IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other CFTIs are advised to review the JoSAA 2025 rulebook thoroughly.
The JoSAA 2025 Business Rules document mentions the details regarding eligibility criteria, seat matrix, rank list formulation, seat allocation process, registration steps, required documents for counselling and more. JoSAA counselling 2025 will be conducted in multiple rounds. Each round will consist of several steps. Once all JoSAA rounds are completed, any seats that remain vacant will be filled through the CSAB 2025 counselling process. The Joint Seat Allocation Authority conducts nationwide counselling for admission into IITs, NITs, IIEST, IIITs, and other Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs).
Admission to the IITs will be done based on the candidate's ranks in the JEE Advanced 2025. On the other hand, seats in NITs, IIEST, IIITs, and other GFTIs will be allotted as per JEE Main 2025 ranks. Candidates to qualify in the JEE and 2025 and have a valid JEE Main rank can participate in the JoSAA counselling process. This will grant admission to several UG engineering courses at top institutes. The details of academic programs and the category-wise intake are commonly referred to as the JoSAA seat matrix. It will be published on the official JoSAA 2025 portal. In the previous admission cycle, a total of 59937 seats were available in all participating colleges.

The JoSAA counselling process is conducted to manage seat allocation for admissions into IITs, NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. The Joint Seat Allocation Authority, which is a centralized body formed by representatives from both the Joint Admission Board (JAB) and the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB), oversees the counselling. In contrast, JAB is responsible for setting the admission policies specifically for IITs. Together, through JoSAA, they streamline the counselling and seat allocation process for all participating colleges.
Candidates who qualify for JEE Main 2025 or JEE Advanced 2025 will be eligible to take part in the JoSAA counselling process. To participate, they must complete the online registration and submit their preferred choices of institutes and courses through the official JoSAA portal.
Step 1: JoSAA Online Registration 2025
To participate in JoSAA 2025 counselling, candidates must complete the registration process online. They must log in using their JEE 2025 application number and password. During this stage, candidates will also have the option to update their contact information and reset their password.
Step 2: Choice Filling and Locking Preferences
Once registered, details must log in to select their preferred colleges and courses. These choices should be arranged in the order of preference. It is important to complete and lock these choices within the deadline, as only those who do so will be eligible for seat allocation. JoSAA provides a 10-day window for candidates to fill out and finalize their choices.
Step 3: Mock Seat Allocation
Oxide allocation is carried out to give candidates the possible institutes and courses that might be allotted based on their current preferences. This process will help candidates make informed decisions by allowing them to review and adjust their choices before final submission. It is important to know that once the choice-filling deadline passes and the options are locked.
Step 4: Announcement of Seat Allotment Results
For each round of counselling, JOSAA will release the seat allotment results individually on the official web portal. Candidates can log in with their credentials to view their allotment status. Once a seat is allotted, the candidate can choose to accept the seat and either continue participating in further rounds or opt out of further rounds.
Step 5: Seat Acceptance Fee Payment
Candidates who are allotted a seat in the counselling process have to log in using their application number and password. Then, they have to download their professional allotment letter. After downloading the letter, candidates need to confirm their admission by paying the seat acceptance fee - Rs. 30,000 for general categories students and Rs. 15,000 for candidates from reserved categories. This fee can be paid either online or via e-challan.
Step 6: Document Verification
Once the seat is accepted, candidates have to physically report to one of the reporting centres for verification of documents. It is mandatory to carry all original certificates along with photocopies of each. The officials will check the original and Xerox copies for records. Upon successful verification, candidates will be given an acknowledgement slip.
Step 7: Final Admission Confirmation
To complete the admission process, candidates have to report to the institute they have been allotted physically. The exact deadline for reporting will be available in the seat counselling letter. If any candidate fails to report within the given timeframe mentioned in the letter, this will result in the cancellation of the seat.
