NTA has released the JEE Main 2026 exam dates for its First Session. Initially, NTA made an announcement stating that they will conduct the exam between 21 to 30 January 2026. But, now it has released the exact dates. As per the schedule, JEE Main 2026 Exam Date for B Tech (Paper 1) is 21, 22, 23, 24 and 28. Whereas, Paper 2 (B Arch & B Planning) is scheduled to take place on 29 January 2026.

Candidates can access their respective exam date and exam centre via the JEE Main 2026 City Intimation Slip, which was recently released on NTA’s JEE Main official website. It is recommended that all candidates download the JEE Main 2026 City Intimation Slip to review their respective exam dates prior to receiving further communications about those dates to avoid any issues or confusions later.

JEE Main 2026 Session 1 admit cards will be made available on the official website, approximately 3–4 days prior to the scheduled exam date. Candidates can download the admit card by using application number and birth date. It is required to bring a printed copy of admit card and a government-issued photo ID to the examination centre.

JEE Main 2026 Eligibility: 75% Marks in Class 12 Mandatory for Admission

Before applying for engineering admission through JEE Main 2026, candidates must be aware of the eligibility conditions.

  • Students should keep in mind that there is NO minimum Class 12th mark that must be achieved to appear in the JEE Mains 2026 Examination. However, Class 12th marks will be necessary for admission into some of the best engineering colleges.
  • All candidates wishing to enter an IIT, NIT, IIIT or GFTI must achieve a minimum of 75% in their Class 12th Board or equivalent exam. Otherwise they will not be granted admission, regardless of their JEE Main ranking.
  • The minimum qualifying percentage for candidates in SC, ST and PwD categories is set at 65%.
  • A further option for admission involves being ranked in the top 20 percentile of your Class 12th Board Exam. (there is also no minimum subject-wise requirement for this option)

Is there any changes in JEE Main 2026 Exam Pattern?

Candidates who are preparing for JEE Main Exam 2026, want to know whether there are any changes implemented to exam pattern. Candidates must clearly understand what has changed and what remains the same. As per the latest updates, overall Exam pattern remain same as previous year. There are no major structural changes, but certain things like Numerical Value Questions attempts have been changed.

The JEE Main 2026 exam will take place over two sessions. Session 1 will take place in January 2026, Session 2 in April 2026. Students are also eligible to apply for both sessions. Authority will consider best out of two while preparing ranking list.

Exam Pattern of JEE Main 2026: Key Updates Explained

  • The exam will continue to have Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
  • A total of 75 questions will be present in the exam, for a combined total of 300 marks.
  • The time limit for the exam remains 3 hours.
  • A student should carry out all preparations for the JEE Main exam by attending mock tests and going through previous year question papers.

Numerical Value Questions (NVQs):

Previously, In section B, there were a total of 10 numerical questions, out of that candidates have the options to attempt any five questions. Now, candidates required to attempt all the numerical questions.

 Calculator Usage:

Previously, there were some misunderstandings concerning the rules on calculator usage as stated in an NTA notice. The NTA has now clarified that candidates taking the computer-based test (CBT) are NOT permitted to use calculators.

Exam City Allotment Change

A new change in JEE Main 2026 exam city allotment is that centres will be linked to the candidate’s Aadhaar address. This will:

  • Reduce random city allotment
  • Help students get centres closer to home
  • Prevent errors and misuse

Syllabus and Marking Scheme

  • The JEE Main 2026 syllabus remains the same as 2025 (based on NCERT).
  • Marking scheme remains unchanged:
    • MCQs: +4 for correct answers and -1 for wrong answers
    • Numerical questions: +4 for correct answers and there is no negative marking.
