Institute of Distance Education- Madras University is developed as Distance learning college in the year 1981 and was established in the city of Chennai, Tamil Nadu. This institute has completed 25 years plus in serving the educational field offered distance learning. At present, There are 15 undergraduate programs, 20 postgraduate course, 16 diploma programs and additionally also there are 12 certification program.

• The under graduate course in B.A offered in Criminology & Police Administration, Economics, English, Historical Studies and Tamil is offered in this distance learning institute.
• The other UG programs offered are BBA, BCA and B.Com in computer application, Bank Management, Commerce and Corporate Secretaryship, B.LIT in Tamil Literature and lastly B.Sc. in Mathematics and Psychology.
• Institute of Distance learning- Madras University courses offered at postgraduate level are M.A in Economics, English, Historical Studies, Human Rights and Duties Education, Political Science and Public Administration. There is MBA offered in several specializations like Financial Management, Hospital management, HRM, Logistics and System Management.
• Institute of Distance learning- Madras University admissions are purely merit based and the entrance exam conducted by the university. UG courses need eligibility of 10+2 passed from recognized board and Graduation degree passed for PG courses.
• Institute of Distance learning- Madras University fee structure for MBA program will be INR 18,850 yearly, M.Sc. fee is INR 15,250 yearly, BA fee would be INR 5,570, B.Sc. fee will be INR 8,470 and same way the fee will be different for different distance learning courses.
• Madras University Distance learning fee details for PG course will be INR 6,500 per annum for M.Com, INR 6,500 will be for M.A and MBA fee will be INR 18,850 yearly.

Library- There is a collection of books like textbooks and reference books. Any leisure hours or free time students can spend their time in reading or referencing available of journals, newspapers, CD, e-books and databases.

SCHOLARSHIPS:

Scholarships are available for the physically challenged or disabled students. Also for the Scheduled caste and scheduled tribes, they are eligible if they purchase any textbooks for an annual allowance of Rs.500/-. Students from minority background are also eligible for this scholarship.
