Indian Institute of Technology Patna is one of the new IITs and is placed 21st among India's Top 25 Engineering Colleges. The IIT Patna has inked an agreement with the Bihar Education Department to establish school science labs. The Act of the Indian Parliament established eight new IITs, including IIT Patna. The institute has ten academic departments, 50 labs, three schools, and a few advanced research centres.
