Government Mohindra College

Government Mohindra College in Patiala is one of the oldest colleges in North India. At its inception in 1875, it was the only College in a vast area extending from Lahore to Delhi. The College was established to provide free education as this region was educationally needy. The College was then allied with Calcutta University. Up until 1937, the institution offered free instruction to state subjects. The custom of offering free education to female candidates without charging a fee until graduation is still in effect today. After independence, the College gained popularity and became a symbol of hope and aspiration for young people.

Initially, Mohindra College Punjab imparted education in Sanskrit, Arabic, and Persian. In contrast, the teaching of English began shortly afterward. At present, the College is affiliated with Punjab University, Chandigarh also. Since its inception, the College has voyaged 140 years, providing the highest quality education in UG and PG programs in various fields, including agriculture, science, the arts, computer applications, management, commerce, and mass communication. Furthermore, the medium of instruction is available in English, Punjabi and Hindi.

The College is ranked among the top colleges in the country. It has a total intake of about 1500 students a year. The College also holds the prestigious honor of receiving the MHRD's "Community College" status. Government Mohindra College Courses are available in BSc, BA, B Com, BJMC, BCA, BA LLB MSc, MA, and  M Com. Admission to all the courses is granted based on academic merit in the last qualifying exam.

It is a public college affiliated with Panjab University offering B.Sc., B.Com, BBA, BA, BCA, BALLB, and BJMC at UG level and M.Sc., MA, M.Com at PG level. Government Mohindra College Course admission is based on candidates' scores from their last qualifying examination. For UG Courses, applicants shall have passed 10+2 from any recognized board. For PG Courses, students shall have completed their bachelor's degree in the concerned discipline. Students who belong to other states must submit the eligibility certificate from Punjabi University, Patiala.

The admission committee recommends the candidates for admission to the Principal. Applicants must submit their application form before the Government Mohindra College admission last date. If the application form is not submitted before the deadline, then the candidates will not be admitted.

GMC has a dedicated training and placement cell. It conducts on-campus and off-campus placements for the students. For example, the Punjab Department of Employment Generation held a seminar to inform students of various job options. Several recruiters from the corporate and public sectors participate in the placement process. The College boasts of being one of the premier colleges in the state. It also holds the enviable title of the state's model college. Its infrastructure is state of the art. The facilities are fully-equipped smart classrooms, a health centre, a well-managed computer centre, and a central library.

• A smart classroom is a typical lecture-style learning environment with access to technological tools that may be utilized to support and improve course education.
• Four labs in the College have the latest technology, computers, printers, multimedia projectors, Scanners, etc. In addition, these labs have around 200 computers in total with Internet facilities.

• The most inspiring of them all is the one-room museum of historical artifacts. The museum, which was opened in the 19th century, contains more than 10,000 photographs and paintings dating back to the 18th century. The museum also has a botanical garden.
