Along with the approval from the UGC-Distance education council, the University initiated distance education in 1974 as a factor of modernization and overall development. It aims to bring qualitative change in higher education by incorporating technology and E-Governance. The University offers UG and PG level courses as a part of their academics. Academic distance courses are provided only to eligible students willing to continue their higher education.

  All the courses offered are imparted with the guidance of expert teaching from Patna University's distance education faculty. The students of DDE-PU need not be present in the classroom to take part in the teacher's lectures to take up their exams; instead, they must prepare on their own for the University exam. The preparation will be based on printed study materials or online content, which is the difference between distance education and regular classes. However, the DDE study materials syllabus will equally serve the purpose of classroom lectures.

• Patna University distance education B.Com admissions

• For the B.Com admissions, students must have completed their intermediate exam with a commerce subject from the well-known council or its equivalent. 
• They must obtain a minimum of 45% on the 12th board. The students are eligible even after completing their 12th science or arts stream exam. 
• If the candidate is considered as not fit by the vice-chancellor, then admission will not be provided for the candidate. 
• The B.Com course will be available in three parts, and the student must choose the optional group.
