The NEET UG Counselling 2026 process will be started shortly after the declaration of NEET UG 2026 results. Medical aspirants from all over the country are eagerly waiting for the announcement regarding the NEET UG 2026 counselling date. The counselling process for 15% of the All India Quota (AIQ) seats will be conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee and for the remaining 85% of the seats, the counselling will be conducted by the state authorities.

Latest NEET UG Counselling 2026 Updates

As per the latest news, seat matrix will be released before counselling begins. This would provide an idea to the students about the total number of seats available in the government, private, and deemed universities.

Another major update is the expected increase in MBBS seats across India. Reports claim that around 8,000 to 10,000 new MBBS seats may be added in this academic year, and if approved, the total number of MBBS seats would reach around 1.40 lakh. In such cases, there would be a direct impact on the admission opportunities of all those students who have cleared NEET.

Categories of NEET UG Counselling

There are two categories of counselling.

All India Quota (AIQ) Counselling 2026

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) is responsible for conducting counselling for

  • 15% of the seats under All India Quota
  • AIIMS
  • JIPMER
  • Central Universities
  • Deemed Universities
  • ESIC and AFMC (wherever applicable)

State Quota Counselling

The individual states are responsible for handling counselling for the remaining 85% of State Quota seats. All states may vary in their counselling schedule, eligibility, and reservation system.

NEET UG 2026 Counselling Schedule

MCC yet to announce the official schedule of NEET UG counselling 2026. However, considering the previous years' admission processes, it is anticipated that the counselling process start after the declaration of NEET UG 2026 results. Candidates are advised to keep visiting the official MCC website on regular basis for new updates and the schedule.

How to apply for NEET UG 2026 Counselling?

Following the announcement of the NEET UG 2026 results, the NEET UG Counselling 2026 will be the next important proceeding. The aspirants who qualify for the examination are required to take part in counselling.  Admission is not granted only based on NEET scores. Candidates will have to complete the counselling process and acquire a seat allotment.

Stage 1: Go to the official NEET UG Counselling website

  • If you are applying for AIQ Quota, you should visit the recognised MCC counselling website.
  • Candidates who are willing to apply via state quota must visit the respective state authority website.
  • Candidates are recommended to understand the counselling procedures before moving forward with the registration.

Step 2: Complete NEET UG 2026 Counselling Registration

  • On the home page, find the link stating "UG Medical Counselling."
  • Upon clicking on the link, choose the option "New Registration" and input your NEET UG Roll number, Application number, DOB, and other required information.
  • Before submitting the NEET Counselling 2026 registration form, you need to cross check all the information.

Step 3: Pay the NEET UG Counselling Fees 2026

  • Once the registration process is completed, pay the required registration fee and security deposit via online mode.
  • The charges can vary according to the college and counselling type chosen by the student.
  • Keep the payment proof for future reference.

Step 4: Choice filling round

  • Log in to your counselling account. Select your preferred medical colleges and courses.
  • You can choose as many colleges as possible based on NEET Rank, cutoff, and other preferences.
  • Arrange them according to the preference for getting admission.

Step 5: Lock Your Choices

  • Once you are done with filling up the choices, make sure to go through all of the selected colleges.
  • Make sure you lock the choices once you are satisfied with them before the deadline.
  • Suppose if candidates fail to lock their choices, it will get automatically locked as soon as the choice filling window closed.  

Step 6: Seat Allotment Result

  • MCC or respective state authority shall announce seat allotment results on the basis of the candidate’s rank obtained in NEET examination as per their category/Reservation Policy.
  • In addition, College preference and availability of seats shall be considered while allocating the seats to candidates.
  • Candidates are advised that they must download their Seat Allotment Letter from the MCC official website Portal.

Step 7: Report to the Allotted College

  • The candidate will have to reach the allotted college along with all required documents as per the prescribed date.
  • Complete the admission process & pay the college fees to confirm your admission.
