  • Bachelor degree in the desired field

The most important step to make a career as a scientist is to select a specialty from fields like Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Mathematics, Astronomy, Geology and other sciences. Once the field of interest or subject is confirmed, get a bachelor degree in your picked field such as B.E/B. tech in a concerned field, Bachelor of Art, Bachelor of Science.

Candidates who want to apply for the undergraduate programs must have passed 10 plus 2 in the related subjects. The reputed institutions demand 50 or 60 percentage for admission process. The candidate must apply for entrance exams like IIT-JEE  that are conducted by the institutes like IITs.

They provide 3 to 4 years of degree courses for graduates. Many institutions also take students on the sole basis of performance in 10 plus 2.

  • Master degree to increase qualification

Just getting a bachelor degree is not sufficient to become a scientist. So, you need to improve your skills and knowledge. After doing graduation in the field of interest, candidates must apply for Master’s degree like MSc or M. tech/ M.E.

Required educational requirement

The bachelor degree in your specialized subject is essential to become eligible for Master’s degree. You must have 55 or 60 percentage in the bachelor’s degree for applying in some of the institutions. Candidates who want to take admission in the reputed institutions like IITs, IIS, PEC and others need to prepare and apply for entrance tests like GATE.

These entrance tests are important for focused preparation and scoring well. After scoring qualifying marks, you get admissions in the master programs. The duration of master degree program may be 2 to 3 years.

  • Getting a doctoral and post- doctoral degree

However, master degree open many opportunities for you but further study options increases more chances to become a scientist in India. You can go for Ph.D., doctoral degree in the related field of your specialization in Bachelors and masters. Even after completing Ph.D. you can go for research institutions for higher studies. There are many tests like IIST, ARS/NET and Scientist Entrance Test by DRDO. You can apply to entrance exams and get admission in the most prestigious programs that makes it very easy to start career as a scientist.
