IGNOU Shimla

IGNOU Regional Centre Shimla was among the pioneering Regional Centres established in 1989. The Centre officially commenced its operations in October 1989 in Shimla with eight study centres spread across Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, and Chandigarh, enrolling around 700 learners. In the following year (1991), additional Regional Centres were set up. RC Shimla was assigned the jurisdiction of the entire Himachal Pradesh, comprising 69 study centres/Programme centres with approximately 9000 learners availing of Distance Learning mode education in the State.

In the context of the ODL system, the Regional Centre holds a pivotal role in program delivery, functioning as a "resource centre" within its region. It serves as the face of the University for practical purposes, coordinating and supervising the activities of study centres in the area. The Shimla Regional Centre is also a crucial link, facilitating communication and collaboration between the University and various state institutions.

IGNOU Shimla Learning Methodology

IGNOU eGyanKosh is the digital Repository of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). It is an online platform that provides free access to a extensive range of study materials, textbooks, e-books, question papers, and other learning resources for various courses offered by IGNOU. eGyanKosh is designed to support the distance learning mode of education provided by the University and offers learners the flexibility to access study materials at their convenience.

Course-wise Repository: eGyanKosh provides a comprehensive collection of study materials categorized according to different courses and programs offered by IGNOU.

Free Access: The platform is accessible to all learners and the general public without any cost. Users can freely browse and download the study materials they require.

IGNOU Shimla Courses and Fees

161 programmes are available for admission to IGNOU Centre Shimla. Merit in the qualifying test and scores on entrance exams are considered when granting admission to the institution. There are four levels of IGNOU New Delhi courses available. These levels are the UG, PG, and PhD. The institution provides courses for full-time, online, and distance learning.

IGNOU Shimla Admission

IGNOU follows two annual admission cycles for most of its academic programs, including the Shimla Regional Centre. The admission cycles are as follows:

January Session: The January session admission cycle usually starts in November/December of the previous year. During this cycle, IGNOU opens admissions for various programs, and interested candidates can apply for admission to their desired courses. The last date to apply for the January session is generally in the first week of January.

July Session: The July session admission cycle typically commences in May/June of the same year. Like the January session, IGNOU offers admissions to various programs during this cycle. The last date to apply for the July session is typically in the last week of June.

UG Admission

At the UG level, IGNOU provides BA, B.Com, BBA, B.Sc, BCA, BPP, BSW, and BLIS programmes in various specializations. The three-year distance learning programme makes the courses available. The length of the BPP and BLIS courses is one year. Merit in the class 12 test determines admission to these programmes.

PG Admission

IGNOU provides MA, M.Sc., M.Com, MCA, MSW, and MLIS programmes in various specializations. The courses are available for two years and a maximum of four years. The MLIS programme, however, lasts for a year. The criterion for admission to these courses is academic achievement in the prerequisite degree. 

IGNOU Application Process

To register and submit their applications, applicants must go to the IGNOU registration website, ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in.

• Go to IGNOUadmission.Samarth.Edu.In to access the admissions site.
• Select the "Click Here New -Registration" tab.
• The registration form is filled out and shown on the screen.
• Having completed the IGNOU registration form's fields,
• Select the "Register" tab.
• The user ID and password are sent to the student's registered email addresses and cellphone numbers.
• Choose the study material mode and the programme.
• Students must now upload their materials in the format and size specified.
• Use a debit card, credit card, ATM card, UPI, or online banking to pay the application cost.
• Then, press the "Submit" button.
• Print many copies of the completed IGNOU application form for your records.

IGNOU OPENMAT

A nationwide entrance test called OPENMAT in IGNOU's MBA programmes happens twice yearly, between July and January. NTA administers the IGNOU OPENMAT examination. For admission to any of the phases, candidates may apply. OPENMAT accounts for several different management programmes provided by the School of Management Studies within IGNOU in addition to the MBA. The exam lasts three hours and is given as a computer-based test. The four components of the IGNOU OPENMAT exam papers are General Awareness, English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, and Reasoning.

Process for Applying to IGNOU OPENMAT

Candidates must complete the IGNOU MBA registration form. The following steps are to register for IGNOU OPENMAT or IGNOU MBA admission:
