National Law School of India University was started in 1987 and is located in Bangalore, Karnataka. It is a state University type and is shortly known as NLSIU. NLSIU is one of India's most prestigious law universities in the state. The course curriculum of the University is BCI and UGC-approved.

National Law School of India University LLB Hons admissions

The LLB Hons is a 3 years program at a postgrad level under professional studies. This National Law School of India University LLB is available for graduates from any discipline from a well-known University. LLB is a qualifying degree to get NLSIU admission for legal practice. The selections are based on graduation scores with NLSAT performance.

To be eligible for the LLM program, the interested students must have LLB or its equivalent degree with an average of 55% marks for General/ OBC/ SAP candidates, and for SC/ ST categories, must have 50%.

Among the types of Law programs at NLSIU, the University offers 5 years integrated program called BA LLB. The National Law School of India University eligibility criteria for BA LLB at NLSIU is based on their completion of 10+2 board exams from a state-recognized board or its equivalent, with a min of 50% for general students; for SC/ST candidates' a min of 45% is accepted.

Doctorate of Law (LLD) is a program that wants to pursue advanced studies/ research in the field of Law. Students seeking admission to LLD must have PhD in Law from a recognized university. The course lasts 3 years, and the thesis must be submitted within 5 years. Also, they must have a minimum of 10 years of Teaching and exceptional academic achievement in the field of Law.
Otherwise, candidates must have done PhD in general from any discipline from a recognized University. The selections will be on post-graduation scores.

Also, the students shall apply for the NLSIU entrance exam called PAT. The final selections can be based on PAT scores and personal interview performance.

 

The National Law School of India University Bangalore admissions process involves qualified students filling out the application form for PAT. Later, fill in the University form and attach the necessary documents of the entrance exam scorecard and other verification docs.   

 

PAT (Policy Aptitude Test) held by the University is divided into two parts. The first section has MCQ questions with negative markings. The second part is descriptive-analytical writing. The exam duration is for two years. The total marks for the exam are 150.

NLSIU MBL, i.e. Masters in Business Law, is a 2-year program. The University offers this part-time course for those working professionals or students willing to pursue higher studies in Business Law. The applicants can get the study material per year per the teaching methodology. However, the candidates must apply for the material of INR 2,500, which is optional. In case the candidates are foreigners, the charges are INR 5000.  The NLSIU admission process is based on the online submission of the form.

National Law School of India University M.Phil admissions

NLSIU offers Doctoral programs like M.Phil in Law as a one-year program, but the thesis can be submitted within a maximum period of 3 years. To be eligible to apply, the Candidates should have completed their LL.M. Degree (regular) from a recognized university and must have secured at least a B+ grade or 55% marks or its equivalent. The M.Phil program is available in disciplines like Public Policy and Law.

 

The eligible candidates must first submit their applications online through the official website. The applicants must also submit their research proposal of about 10-12 pages. The submission will be valid after paying the application fee of INR 3000. Once the submission is made, applicants must appear for the admission test.
The selection of candidates will consider their performance in written tests and then be called for oral presentation in front of a panel of experts.

 

National Law School of India University PhD admissions

NLSIU offers PhD program at the Doctoral level for 3 years. The specializations are availed in Law and Interdisciplinary. The NLSIU eligibility requirements for candidates to get PhD admissions are:

  • The applicants must have a Master's degree in any discipline with a min of 55% aggregate or its equivalent, along with a bachelor's degree from an approved University will be eligible to apply. Otherwise,
  • The applicants should have passed the CA exam organized by the Institute of Chartered Accountants along with graduation degree scores with a min of 55%. Otherwise,
  • Also, the students who have passed the Company Secretaryship that ICS holds in India and an ACS degree will be eligible for PhD admissions.

The application process for PhD remains the same as for M.Phil. i.e. by filling out the National Law School of India University application form online.
Once the submission is made by paying application fees of INR 3000, later, they are supposed to apply for admission tests conducted by the University.

 

This admission test called PAT will include types of questions like:

  • Object-type questions towards research Aptitude- 50 marks.
  • Specific questions in MBL/ MPP/ Law and other disciplines- 50 marks.
  • Questions in the Field of Law and Society- 50 marks

The PhD selection process includes Post-graduation with performance in written test scores. The eligible candidates will be called for research proposals for presentation. This presentation can be done within 3 years of course completion.

 

National Law School of India University M.Phil+ PhD

The integrated program offered by NLSIU is availed as an M.Phil + PhD at the doctorate level. The course duration is 5 years. It is a full-time, on-campus program.
The minimum requirement is that candidates who apply for this program should have a post-graduate degree from a well-known university.
