From the academic year 2022-23, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) plans to launch a four-year undergraduate programme (FYUGP). According to the UGC, which released the FYUGP curriculum draught on March 17, SPPU will begin offering the programme in the following academic year.

  • A new curriculum for four years of undergraduate courses will be introduced at the university campus in this academic year.
  • It includes liberal arts and a blended Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) programme.
  • Currently, SPPU is working on the syllabus, which will be determined following the guidelines outlined in the New Education Policy (NEP).
  • The new FYUGP programme will assist students in research and further studies while pursuing a PhD.

According to the UGC, the FYUGP was proposed in the new National Education Policy 2020, which offers students a variety of exit and entry options. The UGC has asked stakeholders for feedback on the draught framework until April 4 to finalise it. The programme is divided into eight semesters. Then students will need 160-176 credits for a four-year degree with honours or research.

Students will be required to declare a 'major' subject and two minors related to a disciplinary or interdisciplinary area of study at the end of the third semester. After the first year (two semesters), the student will be awarded a certificate. Followed to this, a diploma certificate in the second year a bachelor's degree in the third year will be awarded.
