The National Education Society (NES) established JNNCE - Jawaharlal Nehru National College of Engineering in 1980. The old freedom fighters founded the society to provide quality education in rural areas. Today, the non-profit organization has many distinctive educational institutes under its Executive management. The JNNCE Campus is situated in the Malnad area of Karnataka. The college aims to deliver high-standard technical education with the best possible infrastructure. The Institute has approval from the Karnataka state government and AICTE Delhi. JNNCE Shimoga has  2f & 12B certifications under UGC. Besides, the JNNCE Shimoga courses have NBA and NAAC accreditation.

The courses offered in JNNCE Shimoga are undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programs. The undergraduate program offers a degree in Bachelor of Engineering (B.E) across nine engineering streams. Furthermore, the postgraduate program has MCA, MBA, and M.Tech in two engineering streams as degree offerings. There is no provision for BCA in JNNCE Shimoga. Lastly, the Institute's research facility hosts students for Ph.D. and M.Sc engineering programs. There is an assurance to the educational quality as the courses have affiliation with VTU Belagavi.

Jawaharlal Nehru National College admission takes place based on Common Entrance Examinations. Students applying for BE/B Tech must appear for the KCET or COMEDK examination. According to the seat allocation for BE/B Tech admission, 45% of seats will be allotted by Karnataka Government, KEA through CET merit rank. 30% of seats are limited for COMEDK. The remaining 25% of seats are allotted for the Jawaharlal Nehru National College of Engineering Management Quota. Those who wish to get Admission under KCET Quota must ensure the cutoff eligibility.

Admission to the PG Courses such as MBA, MCA, and M Tech is based on KPGCET scores. Those who have attained valid scores in national-level exams are also eligible to apply. Students with interest in M.Tech courses need to compulsory attend examinations like PGCET or GATE. The seat matrix for M.Tech is 80% government quota and 20% management quota. JNNCE Shimoga MBA admission requires scores from Common Entrance Exams like PGCET/ KMAT/ CAT/ MAT/ XAT. The seat distribution for MCA and MBA programs is 50% each for the government and JNNCE Shimoga Management quota. PGCET cutoff ranking in JNNCE Shimoga for MBA was 24089. And the PGCET cutoff for MCA was 8155.

JNNCE Shimoga campus spreads across 55 acres of land on the foothills of the Western ghats. As the campus presence is on a  biodiversity hot spot, the Institute conducts green initiatives such as the Phyto-remediation system, Rain water harvesting, Solid Waste Management System, and usage of Biodiesel. The campus is student-oriented with facilities like Hostel, Library, Information Centre, Canteen, Medical center, ATM, Post office, Sports Centre, Guest Housing, etc. The Hostel has separate boys' girls dormitories with occupancy of 744 and 450, respectively. The JNN College Shimoga hostel's total yearly fee is INR 21,800/- which includes mess charges.

The cell conducts training programs to increase students' employability skills. The JNNCE Shimoga Placement cell has various Industry partnerships that provide students industrial exposure through Industrial visits and expert seminars. The department supports infrastructure for the selection process, like pre-placement talks, aptitude tests, group discussion rounds, and interviews.

JNNCE Shimoga fees structure for B Tech through KCET quota is INR 42k+1500/- per annum. In contrast, the JNNCE Shimoga Management Quota fees and COMEDK fees will be quite expensive compared to the general fees. 

The fee structure for MBA in JNN College through PGCET  is INR 42k + 700/-. Students applying for Management quota, must pay INR 1.2 Lakhs per annum. The JNNCE Shimoga direct admission fees for MCA is INR 1.15 Lakhs per annum.
