Madras School of Social Work is affiliated to University of Madras and is an autonomous college established in the year 1952. The school is NAAC accredited and is also affiliated to International Association of Schools of Social Work. The main objective of the school is to impart education in the fields of Human Resource, Professional Social Work and Psychology also other social science related disciplines.

The courses offered at bachelor’s degree include BSW and B.Sc. in psychology, similarly at post-graduation level there is MSW, M.Sc. in Counselling Psychology and MA in Human Resource Management, Development Management, Human Resource and Organisation Management and Social Entrepreneurship also PG Diploma in Personnel Management and Industrial Relations as well Human Resource Management specialisations are available. • Candidates for admission to the first year of the Degree of Bachelor of Science courses shall be required to have passed the Higher Secondary Examinations (Academic or Vocational Stream) directed by the Government of Tamil Nadu or an Examination acknowledged as proportional thereof by the Syndicate of the University of Madras.

M.SC COUNSELLING PSYCOLOGY

• Any student with a special interest and aptitude for management of organizations and people, with a Bachelor’s Degree, in any discipline, of a minimum of 3 years duration or its equivalent (under the 10+2+3 pattern or any other pattern (including professional courses) that fulfills the mandatory requirements of 15 years formal education from a recognized University and approved by the University of Madras will be eligible to apply for the course. Preference will be given to candidates with work experience from the Development Sector.

M.PHIL

Admission 

Duration: 2 years

Category of exam: doctorate

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

• Percentage criteria: The minimum marks for full-Time M.Phil. Degree course shall be 50% for the candidates who have qualified for the Master’s Degree in the respective discipline prior to 01-01-1991 and 55% for the candidates who have qualified for the Master’s degree on or after 01-01-1991.
• There is no provision for rounding off of 54.5% and above marks to 55%. For candidates belonging to SC/ST Community and Disabled (Physically and Visually challenged) candidates, who have qualified for a Master’s Degree on or after 01-01-1991, a concession of 5% of mark, will be given in the minimum eligibility marks prescribed.
•  The admission may be made on the basis of the marks obtained by the candidates in qualifying examination and marks scored in the Entrance Test.
• In the instance of hopefuls of University of Madras including those from self-sufficient school of this University both Internal and External imprints will be considered.
• In the case of candidates who have obtained their P.G. Degree from different Universities, the imprints secured by them in the External Examination in addition to Entrance Test imprints will be thought about to arrive the merit list.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

• Percentage criteria: The candidate should have obtained a Master’s Degree with not less than Second Class or equivalent grade. In the case of Examinations where classification does not exist, a minimum 50% marks is needed in the qualifying exam..
• Candidates should submit their application in the concerned Department on or before 2nd January, 1st April, 1st July and 1st October.
• Registration for Ph.D. may be done throughout the year.
