Tamil Nadu open University(TNOU) has Launched Learner Support Centres and Exam Centres in 91 Arts and Science Government Colleges in the state. The inauguration was done by the Minister for Higher Education Thiru KP Anbalagan. The open university of Tamil Nadu provides 42 undergraduate and 38 postgraduate UGC recognised programmes. Principal Secretary to the Government Selvi Apoorva IAS, Thiru K Vivekanandan IAS Higher Education Department, Professor K Parthasarathy Directorate of Collegiate Education, Dr.K Rathnakumar Vice Chancellor of TNOU, Registrar of TNOU and several university and directorate of collegiate education were present in the inauguration ceremony.

 TNOU provides 16 short-term courses, 24 certificate courses, 4 diploma, 14 vocational diploma and 2 advanced diploma programmes for which students can apply online. During the inauguration of the LSCs and ECs, Thiru KP Anbalagan Minister for Higher Education  quoted that TNOU has been working towards equipping student with all skill required to meet the societal challenges and knowledge upgradation through Higher Education under Distance and Open Learning system. 

The Minister said that all the 42 UG and 38 PG programmes offered by the university are recognised by the University Grants Commission. The department of higher education also mention that degrees offered by the university through formal stream and the students who have complete degree are eligible for the government job in the future. 

High quality SLMs will be provided to the students as per the statement issued by TNOU for all the programmes. ID cards and SLMs were issued to the few enrolled students by the Higher Education and Agriculture Minister, Thiru K.P. Anbazhagan during the inauguration. The mister also highlighted that students who were unable to get admission for their interest courses in the colleges or those who have already joined can enrol themselves for the skill-oriented programmes to develop their employability. Convocation Certificate will be awarded to the students by the TNOU after completion of the programmes.
