DTTE, Govt. of Delhi, founded the IGDTUW in 1998, making it the country's first institution for women aspirants. Formerly known as IGIT, it has significantly contributed to developing high-quality technical education in the nation over the years. It has grown to develop not just as one of Delhi's most esteemed institutions but also as the most prestigious university in northern India. It was the first institution to become a constituent college of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University in 2002. After being renamed Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women in May 2013, IGDTUW officially became the first women's technical University under the Delhi government according to Delhi Act 09 of 2012.

IGDTUW aims to facilitate and promote studies, research, technology, innovation, incubation, and extension work in emerging fields of professional education among women. The UGC oversees the University's programs. And the institute is ISO 9001:2015 Certified. Indira Gandhi Women's University has recognition from AICTE Delhi. Under engineering categories, it was ranked 177 by the NIRF in 2022.

The University is committed to providing women with a high-quality education in four areas of engineering—CES, ECE, mechanical and automation engineering, and information technology. The provision of Indira Gandhi Technical University courses are BBA, BTech, MTech, and Ph.D. programs. The institution also provides a 5-year B.Arch. Program (Architecture) and a 2-year M. Plan postgraduate program (Urban Planning).

The Indira Gandhi Delhi university's teaching methodology aims to get students to think critically, solve problems through arguments supported by evidence, and not be afraid to tackle complexity. The institution regularly updates the curriculum with the help of industry professionals and top academics to generate graduates who are prepared for the workforce.

The Indira Gandhi technical institute Delhi's many departments are running sponsored research projects from top industry/organizations such as Microsoft Corporation, Atmel, Nokia, Department of Science & Technology, Department of Information & Technology, Indian Government, and IITs, to name a few. With the help of the Delhi government, IGDTUW launched Anveshan, an incubation center that provides young women engineers with several possibilities to pursue their entrepreneurial ideas.

Six academic and two administrative departments make up the Delhi Technical University for Women's decentralized organizational structure, which helps the academic departments function more effectively. Academic departments are organized and supervised by the Head of the Department. Aside from teaching and service duties to carry out academic work, the various academic departments have become the epicenter of research and development activities in their respective fields of specialization. The Dean (Academic Affairs), Dean (Examination Affairs), Dy. Deans (Research & Consultancy), Dy. Deans (Student Welfare), Chief Proctor, and Chief Warden are responsible for the academic and administrative duties of the IGDTUW.

Students at Indira Gandhi institute of technology and management Delhi have access to various co- and extracurricular activities. The institute puts on various events and festivals, such as the yearly technical festival INNERVE and the cultural festival TAARANGANA. Several clubs and organizations have also been founded by IGDTUW, including the SAE IGDTUW Collegiate Club, Technoliterati, the Literary Society, Greensphere, the Eco Club, Synergy, the Sports Club, Hypnotics, the Dance Society, Rahnuma, the Dramatics Society, and many others.

Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University Admissions

The Indira Gandhi Technical University courses are 10 Undergraduate programs, 8 postgraduate programs, and 11 research programs. The offering degree at the UG level is B.Tech, B.Arch, and BBA. On the other hand, the PG programs offer degrees in M.tech, MCA, MBA, and M.Plan. IGDTUW has one dual degree comprising 5 years which awards both B.Tech and MBA.

IGDTUW admission takes place based on the merit list of various Common Entrance exams. Additional eligibility criteria are in place for the admission process. Following are the Common entrance exams students require to appear for getting admission to the desired courses.

  • B Tech and B Arch admission are through Joint Admission Counseling (JAC). Students must qualify in JEE Main to be eligible for IGDTUW B Tech admission.
  • The students must score identical to the Indira Gandhi Technical University Cut off.
  • Students must qualify for NATA Examination to be eligible for admission to the IGDTUW B Arch.
  • GATE valid scores determine admission to the M Tech courses. For admission to the MCA, candidates must qualify in NIMCET.
  • IGDTUW MBA admission is based on the valid score in CAT followed by GD and PI. In contrast, admission to the BBA is based on 10+2 merit, followed by CMAC counseling.
  • IGDTUW Ph.D. admission is based on the Research Aptitude Test (RAT).

Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University Hostel

The University has two women's hostels, Krishna Hostel and Kaveri Hostel, which can house up to 300 students. These two hostels can be found on the University's campus. All the hostels provide students with a secure and clean environment. There is an ever-present hostel administration to assist students at all times. All rooms are twin/ triple occupancy; each room comes with study tables, built-in cupboards, beds, and chairs.
