NEET UG 2023: OCI Category

The OCI Category (Overseas Citizen India) applicants are now eligible for admission to the MBBS, BAMS, BUMS, BHMS, and BDS Courses in India. According to the latest notice released by NTA, NEET 2023, the information bulletin has been revised based on the Supreme Court of India's decision. In the past, OCI candidates were not eligible to apply for seats reserved solely for Indian citizens because they were not considered equal to Non-Resident Indian (NRI) candidates.

"Hence, OCI/PIO will be treated as immigrants and will be qualified for NRI seats only and will not be eligible for Indian National Seats including paid seats of deemed universities," the initial information stated. The OCI candidates and their parents were outraged by this criterion, which was challenged in court.

OCI candidates will be eligible to apply for undergraduate medical courses reserved for Indian citizens based on the judgment. However, there is a caveat that states that OCI candidates will be eligible for undergraduate medical and allied courses subject to the rules, regulations, and notifications issued by the respective regulatory bodies, counselling authorities, and admission authorities by the Policy Decision of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW) or Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
