Xavier Institute of Management & Research (XIMR), Mumbai, was established in 2006 as a member of the world’s largest education network, the Society of Jesus (Jesuits), founded in 1540. The Jesuit priests were sought after by European Monarchs, China’s Ming Emperor, and the Japanese Shoguns for their knowledge and expertise. The Jesuits were genuinely global, being the first Europeans to cross the Himalayas and enter Tibet, paddle to the source of the Nile, etc. They spread knowledge across the world and gained unprecedented prestige and influence from Rome to China over several centuries.
The Society of Jesus has over 20,000 members and runs 2000 institutions in more than 100 countries. For more than 500 years, the Jesuits have molded leaders across the world.
