The Department of Commerce functions under the Delhi School of Economics, the academic unit of Delhi University. Initially, the Department of Commerce and DSE  were formally set up as separate entities in 1967. However, the Department has the factual claim & pride of being the leading institution in India for course curriculum development, teaching & research in Commerce and economic disciplines.

The college offers admission to the MBA, M Com, and Ph.D. in commerce studies. Delhi School of Economics MBA is available in International Business and Human Resource Development. Admission is offered based on the entrance test and academic merit. For admission to the MBA, students must qualify in national-level exams such as CAT, XAT, MAT, or GMAT with an eligible score that must satisfy the cutoff criterion. In the case of M Com admission, DUET scores determine the candidate's eligibility.

Department of Commerce University of Delhi M Com Admission:

The institute offers admission to the three-year M Com with an annual intake of 131 seats. The course fee structure for M Com is approximately INR 10,000. Admission to the M Com will be granted based on the entrance test. In addition, students are required to appear for the DUET conducted by the University of Delhi. There is also a provision for Direct admission in the Delhi School of Economics.

M Com Eligibility Criteria

An applicant can choose between the following two categories to apply for admission in the Delhi School of Economics DU:

A Category: Direct or Merit-Based Admission

B.Com (Hons) from the University of Delhi

  • 65 percent overall for the General Category
  • 58.5% for OBC,
  • 60 percent for Sports, CW, and PWD
  • The minimum passing score for SC and ST.

B.Com (General) from the University of Delhi

70% for the general category

63% for the OBC category

65% for the sports, CW, and PWD categories, and the minimum passing score for the SC and ST categories.

Category 2: Admission Based on Entrance Exam

B Com (Hons) or BA (Hons) Economics degree from the University of Delhi or another recognized university:

  • Minimum passing marks for the SC/ST category (percentage not rounded)
  • 50 percent overall for the general category
  • 45 percent for the OBC category
  • 45 percent for sports, CW, and PWD categories

B Com General qualification from Delhi University or Any Recognized Indian University

55% of the total marks are required for the General Category, 49.5% for the OBC Category, and 50% for the Sports, CW, and PWD Categories.

DUET Entrance Exam Format:

Candidates who have completed their bachelor's degree in B Com must appear for the entrance test conducted by DU. The DUET lasts two hours and awards 400 marks. The weights of the four units are the same.

Each question receives four marks, and each incorrect response deducts one point. There is a written test with 100 multiple-choice questions and 25 questions covering the following topics:

  1. Accounting (including Financial Accounting, Corporate Accounting, Cost Accounting, and Management Accounting),
  2. Business Organization, Management, Business Law, Company Law, Income Tax Law
  3. Economics (Micro Economics, Macro Economics, and Indian Economy Problems)

How to apply for M Com in Delhi Economics School?

Typically, applications can be submitted through the DU PG Admission Portal. Candidates are required to submit their applications in the following order:

  • On the DU PG Admission Portal, sign up.
  • To access the application form, use your login information.
  • Complete the required information and select "Department of Commerce" from the college's option.
  • For admission selection, choose either entrance-based merit or merit-based merit.

Include the necessary documents:

Complete the application form and pay the fee.

Documents Requirement: At the time of admission, applicants are required to bring the following documents, both originals and copies that have been self-awarded:

  • Class X and XII certificates for date of birth verification
  • Migration Certificate (if not from DU)
  • 03 copies of a recent passport-size photograph
  • Category Certificate (SC, ST, OBC, EWS, PWD, and CW category)
  • Character Certificate from the Principal of the College or Head of the Institution last attended SSC mark sheet

Department of Commerce University of Delhi MBA Admission:

The Delhi School of Economics MBA in international business, which the Faculty of Business and Commerce run, is crucial in providing students with the skills they need to shape the future of business. The Faculty of Business and Commerce was chosen in 1985 by the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India, and the International Trade Centre (ITC/UNCTAD/GATT), Geneva, to host a specialized program in International Business and Trade. This decision laid the groundwork for MIB. On the recommendation of the UGC, the University of Delhi renamed the program MBA (IB).

The Delhi School of Economics Syllabus for MBA was created with the needs and requirements of the future business world. It is up to date in both its pedagogy and outlook and is regularly revised in response to feedback from corporate leaders. The school has been recognized as an institution that has demonstrated its capacity to continuously update its information base to meet the needs of government agencies, businesses, and industry. It aims to give students the tools they need to succeed and add value to the organizations in which they participate.

MBA Eligibility Criteria

  • Indian students must have earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Delhi or an equivalent examination in any field with at least 50% overall or an equivalent grade in the grading system.
  • According to university regulations, students in the reserved category would have their eligibility reduced.
  • You can apply if you have a Bachelor's degree and are taking the final exam. 
  • All foreign applicants, including those who have completed their education from an Indian Board, may be treated as Foreign Students for their registration or admission in various Departments and Colleges of the University.
  • And they may be considered for admission under the 5% quota for international students.
  • However, selected candidates will only be eligible for admission when they submit a result that meets the minimum eligibility criteria at the time of admission.
  • Indian applicants are mandated to take CAT Entrance Exam.
  • Whereas international applicants are eligible to apply based on GMAT, IELTS, TOEFL

MBA Selection Process:

Through the website www.commerce.du.ac.in, applicants can register online for admission to MBA programs (HRD and IB). When filling out the Delhi School of Economics online application form, candidates must indicate which courses they prefer, i.e., MBA (HRD) or MBA (IB).

At subsequent stages, the preference for the course cannot be altered. The same method will be used when releasing the candidates' merit lists after considering all factors, such as their CAT score and grades in classes X and XII.

The Department of Commerce Delhi University merit list and the waiting list for inviting candidates to call in for counseling, if any, shall be prepared course-by-course based on merit and preference of candidates.

Admission Process:

Candidates must complete the application to be admitted to the school. Candidates can complete the registration form before the deadline once it has begun. Most likely, the application deadline will come before the CAT result. In addition, the applicant was required to provide personal, academic, and work experience information on the application. Department of Commerce, the University of Delhi Ph.D. Admission:

The Ph.D. in Economics is a doctoral program that lasts three years. In most cases, macroeconomics and microeconomics are taught in the doctoral Program. Students in this course can pursue a career in education or formal economic research. Because of the growing demand for and significance of this field, several people are interested in pursuing additional education.

Candidates who have a lot of interest in research-oriented work are the best candidates for this course. The majority of Ph.D. candidates belong to the academic community. The Ph.D. in Economics program may include placements in major corporations and admissions to prestigious institutions.

Ph.D. Eligibility criteria

The following are the academic requirements that applicants must meet for the Program:

  • Degree from a university or college accredited by AICTE, UGC, or AIU with at least 60% in any subject (students in their final year can also apply).
  • More weight will be given to work experience and additional educational credentials.
  • Those who have completed their graduation examinations this year may also apply for admission to the Post Graduate program.
  • It will be necessary for students to pass the UGC-NET exam.

Ph.D. Selection Procedure

  • The student's scores on the entrance test administered by the respective Department or school of the particular university or institute will determine their eligibility for the Ph.D. program.
  • Candidates who have passed the entire GATE, NET, SET, M.Phil., or JRF examination in the relevant subject from apex bodies like CSIR, UGC, ICAR, ICMR, or DBT will not be required to take the entrance test.
  • The institute's Departmental Committee may consider prior Ph.D. research when granting the exemption. D./the student's experience.
  • A student may not have to take the entrance exam or take the pre-Ph.D. coursework if they already have a doctoral degree in a relevant field from a UGC-approved university or institute.
  • After completing both steps, the student can pay the registration or course fee. The Ph.D. program only accepts a predetermined number of applicants.
