Indian Institute of Technology (BHU), also known as BHU IIT, was started in 1919 as Banaras Engineering College. Later in the year 1968, it was converted into the Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University. In 2012, the Institute received the name Indian Institute of Technology having National Importance. The Institute has been offering B.Tech & B. Pharm at the undergraduate level and M.Tech & M.Pharm at the postgraduate level, and Ph.D. at the research level.

BHU IIT Varanasi B.Tech Admissions:
The Institute has offered an engineering program at the UG level for four years with nine specializations. The Institute accepts application forms of students with 75% marks in the 10+2 exam or equivalent or Top 20 Percentile in the respective board exam and a valid score in the JEE Main exam.

BHU IIT, Varanasi Ph.D. Admissions:
The Institute also offers research-level programs for the students with 19 specializations in Humanistic Science, Science, Pharmacy, and Engineering. The admission procedure in the Institute for the Ph.D. program will be based on a written test followed by an interview round of the students who are shortlisted by the DPGC of the respective School or Department.
The students will be shortlisted for appearing in the written test and interview round based on the merit in the qualifying exam or the scores obtained in GPAT, NET, or GATE exam.
Students with a valid score in CSIR NET or UGC NET JRF will be provided with Ph.D. admission after the interview round, and these students will be recommended to the program by DPGC.
Students are applying for Ph.D. Engineering must have an essential master's degree in engineering with 60% marks or a bachelor's degree in engineering with 75% marks in applicable disciplines.
