Kilpauk Government Medical College (GKMC), Chennai, is one of the most ancient and famous government medical colleges in the state of Tamil Nadu. Originally known as the School of Indian Medicine, established in 1925, it transformed in 1960 into a medical college and is currently affiliated with The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, and is recognized by the National Medical Commission.
Government Kilpauk Medical College is attached to Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital. Through its tertiary care facilities, well-equipped laboratories, research centres, library, student hostels, and advanced medical facilities the medical college provides excellent clinical exposure to its students.

The Government Kilpauk Medical College offers the MBBS as a degree course and also MD, MS, DM, and M.Ch. as postgraduate courses. MBBS admissions to government Kilpauk Medical College will be through the NEET UG. Similarly, MD/MS admissions are through NEET PG. UG admissions are conducted through the Tamil Nadu State Counselling and the MCC All India Quota Counselling, while PG admissions are done by MCC and the Director of Medical Education & Research (Tamil Nadu). Government Kilpauk Medical College MBBS Admission 2026

  • Admissions for the MBBS programme will be through NEET UG 2026, followed by Tamil Nadu State Counselling and MCC All India Quota Counselling. 
  • Applicants must first clear NEET UG and then register for the centralized counselling.
  • The programme of MBBS is a period of five and a half years (5.5 years) which includes a one-year compulsory rotatory internship.

Eligibility for MBBS:

The candidate has to be a passer in the Senior Secondary Examination (10+2) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany & Botany& Zoology in combination if offered as a subject), and English. General category students must have secured at least 50% in the aggregate of PCB
Reservation of seats and relaxation for reserve category students is according to Government of India norms. Date of birth of an applicant must be on or before after 31th December, 2026, he / she must also have been 17 years of age on the said date.

GOVT KILPAUK MEDICAL COLLEGE Admission for MBBS is as per the following criteria: 1. The candidate should be of min. 17 years of age. 2. The candidate should have passed their 12th or an equivalent in science stream with physics, chemistry and biology as their majors and should have secured a min. of 50% average marks (40% for reserved category) from a recognized institute. 3. The candidate should also write the NEET UG and obtain valid scores accordingly. The score obtained in the test would play a major role in the selection of the candidate. Those looking for gaining direct admissions need to fill in the criteria 1 & 2.

For MBBS course entry into Govt. Kilpauk medical college, basic requirement is that candidate must have passed 10+2 with at least 50% aggregate marks with PCB as the compulsory subject from a recognised board and student must have completed the age of 17 years on or before December 31, 2020. Selection for admission is totally dependent on the entrance exam score and hence it is mandatory that aspirants must appear for NEET entrance exam and must secure valid score as per the cut off marks in order to get shortlisted for admission.
